Hey guys,

First post!

I'm needing some urgent advice- I'm about to buy an Audi S1, for a reasonable price compared to similar ones. It's in perfect mechanical nick, and only has 15,000 miles. The kicker is that it's had 5 keepers.

I'm really new to this. What's up with that?

This is the HPI scoop I've got on it.

Keeper changes recorded
Number of previous keepers: 4 (The logbook has 5)
Most recent keeper change: 08/04/2016
Dates of other changes:
29/10/2015
10/10/2015
10/02/2015

Mileage data available
Source Date Mileage
DVLA 20/08/2015 10,000
VMC 02/12/2014 3,832
DVLA 14/10/2014 4,000
NAMA 08/10/2014 3,832

Any assistance on this would be HEAVILY appreciated.

Thanks!

Forgot to mention- I even contacted the Audi garage that serviced it at 10k- they said it's sweet.

?!?!

How on earth are random people on the internet supposed to know why the car has had so many owners? Might be a lemon that's been returned over and over, might be due to being passed around the same family, or admin errors, who knows.

I'm not asking why the car has had so many owners, I'm asking advice on the purchase. Is the number of owners something that would put people off? Thanks for your comment though, guy.

Could have been a pre-reg/demo. (1 owner)
Then off to new owner (2nd owner)
Then off to dealer (3rd owner) not sure if it works this way!
Then off to another new owner. (4th owner)

That's 2 drivers but 4 owners.

Could have been a lease vehicle but handed back early too.

Generally speaking the number of owners doesn't bother me, but 5 in two years would put me off.

Flood damage?

Even if straight, the high number of owners means worth c15% less than a 1 or 2 owner car.

It matters to others, so yes it should matter to you, not in terms of not buying it if it's a good one, but the price you should buy it at.

When you come to sell it, potential buyers will use it as a negotiating tool, so make sure you do too.

Enjoy the S1, I absolutely love mine.

The number of keepers has never really bothered me. Keeper changes happen for lots of reasons & it is not always because there is something wrong with the car.
I would look at the condition of the car & the price asked for it. For a bit more peace of mind OP, maybe consider an independent vehicle inspection before you buy?

I guess the question is "how much"? I see a one owner car with less than 10k miles for less than £17k. That is an unusually high number of keepers in 2 years and would make many question (as you are) - "why"?

If you are going to keep it a long time then it doesn't matter. If you are planning to get shut after 12 months then yes it will raise questions.
Great choice by the way, Ive had mine 1 month and loving it.

It must be a good car for so many people to have bought it wink

It's an Audi so it's been clocked more times than Big Ben, probably.
