For ages now I've been using the Assos stuff and have found it really rather good....but I'm wondering whether some of the others (eg udderly smooth, morgan blue etc) are as good, and that you're paying a bit for the price of the Assos name.

I'm down to under 1/2 tub of Assos and I'm tempted to try something new....but then 1/2 of me says stick with what you know. But at £12 or whatever for 140ml, there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there. Would like to hear your thoughts, especially those who have already used Assos.

Cheers

There was another thread on this a couple of weeks ago. The majority, including myself, use Assos .... I see no reason to try anything else if it works.smile

I use Chamois Butt'r Eurostyle on the simple grounds that this is what the "reasonably priced" local bike shop sells.

I've tried a couple of others, but keep coming back to Chamois Butt'r. Not the Eurostyle though, as I'm not fond of a minty undercarriage.

½lb lard and a few chips thrown down the shorts, that should also save you from bonking lick

I use Chamois Butt'r Eurostyle (mmmm tingly) as some others have on here. I've never had a problem, it keeps me nice and comfortable all day smile

Cant help but think that Assos creme is simply a money making effort similar to a helmet manufacturer.

Pre ride - clean and talc and repeat after ride....if you cycle day after day Sudocreme does the same job at a fraction of the price.

Just bought some more Assos, tried Morgan Blue but it was everything it was cracked up to be. Doesn't Sudocreme damage the chamois?

I used the Assos stuff but thought I'd give the muc-off chamois cream a go, it seems good so far. Consistency is similar to the Assos anyhoo.

I've the Raid Pyrenean coming soon, so I'll maybe be crying out for Assos by the end of that.

Sudocreme does seem a cheap sensible option untill you use it as a main cream. It will in time ruin your shorts as well as mark your saddle.

I've gone back to the assos stuff, although i have some Morgan blue on order.

Sudocrem is great for sores post-cycle. I wouldn't use it during a ride.

I'm pretty sure sudocrem has totally the wrong consistency for something during a ride....it doesn't seem to offer much in the way of reducing friction, which is the whole point of a chamois cream.

After a ride, however.....fine.

The Muc-Off stuff isn't bad - you can sometimes pick up a tub for a tenner or so (£20RRP - WTF?!) which makes it fair VFM.

To be honest, any gooch grease/ball baste is better than none, so whatever falls to hand at the LBS/Wiggle etc and doesn't cost a million pounds (cough -RAPHA- cough) will do the job provided you slather enough on.

I've got some Endura Chamois Cream that has lasted ages, and a pot of Udderly Smooth for when that runs out. I generally don't bother, unless I'm racing on a hot day, or doing more than 50 miles.

Been using this for a while now after picking up some to bring my basket total up to the discount threshold http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Secret-Training/S...

Seems fine for me on 4-5hr rides.
