The official PH mountain bike ride: Round 1, Cannock Chase
Discussion
Right then,
I hope everyone is primed and ready for an excellent evening of bike based tomfoolery. I'll be at Marquis Drive (as excellently shown by Max Torque in his map link; https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.738269,-1.997482...
I'll be in the PH Fleet Skoda and will put up a PH flag so everyone knows where to meet. Dan will also be in a bright orange Mustang so if you miss us you're in no fit state to be riding a bicycle in the woods!
I'll be there from about 16:30 - looking forward to it!

I'm a very unlikely at this point sadly. Got too much work nonsesne to square away. If I finish early enough I may still drive over to say hello once you've finished.
Come over and do a half lap, then join us for the bit where we talk rubbish for an hr before going home...... ;-)Craikeybaby said:
That was good fun, it was good to ride with faster riders - that was my fastest lap of Cannock.
I even had a good cross country drive home.
Glad your enjoyed yourself, always good to meet other PHers! I find the Monkey actually gets easier the faster you go, as you spend less time getting hung up on stuff and just bump over it a bit more ;-)I even had a good cross country drive home.

...We should also get round 3 (Swinley), 4 (Surrey Hills) and 5 (The North) sorted too...
Swinley is great. Last month I met Chris and his mate Ben there one Sunday for a blast around a mixture of marked and 'historic' trails. Marred slightly by my 'off' on a simple fire road on the way home, but an absolute hoot up to that point.I'll just put it out there that there are a LOT of great MTBing venues nearby to Swinley. Crowthorne Wood, birthplace of the Gorrick Races, Tunnel Hill, Porridge Pots, Area 51, plus Minley Manor and a bunch of army/MOD training areas around Aldershot. Lots of great XC and 'Enduro' race laps have been ridden hereabouts and I know all of them to not get lost even without a map, many of them moderately well, and one or two "like the back of my hand". Anyone unfamiliar with, or new to the area wanting an intro to Minley and Hawley especially is welcome to PM/email me and I'll try to meet for a guided tour. The 'Crown and Cushion' pub garden and car park share a boundary with the Minley training area so food and liquid refreshment are available close by too.
I'd be well up for a Surrey Hills ride too. Close enough to be within easy reach, but I've never ridden it off-road before. It's about time I right that particular wrong, I think...
...sadly, due to my current financial situation, Woburn and 'The North' are out of the question.
