Hi All,
The Espoir Elite BlackBelt x 2 tyres on my Specialized Roubaix are flattening off and I've got a few cracks appearing so will need replacing soon. I've done over 2,500 miles in a mixture of conditions all year round and only had one puncture, so fairly happy from that perspective. Size is 25* x 700 which I'll stick with.

Does anyone have any suggestions of tyres which are slightly lighter, give better rolling resistance but will offer good puncture resistance.

I see both the Continental Grand Prix 4 season and Continential Grand Prix 4000S II mentioned as alternatives?

Recommendations please? smile

I currently use the Continental Grand Prix and they are great.
Only had one puncture in 800 miles and they were grippy enough around a track in the wet.

Can only imagine that the upgraded 4000s will be better in all respects.

The Roubaix will take 28c - 30c tyres with ease, I'd definitely think about atleast going up to 25c.

What kind of riding do you?

If you're using the Roubaix as intended and regularly hitting cobbles, strada, gravel tracks etc then something like a Challenge Strada Bianche in 30mm would be nice.

If you stick to the roads then the aforementioned Conti GP4000 in 25c would be nice too or splash out some plush Vittoria Corsas.

I've just got some of these:

And I'm very happy with them. Good value from CRC, too.

Would definietly go up to 25mm tyres though, if not 28. It's what the pros do!

Thanks all, went for the Michelin Pro4 ENDURANCE V2 in a 25.

Also found this useful site to compare different tyres

Doesn't help if you've chosen now, but I've got the 24c Specialized Griptons as standard on my Tarmac and they're absolutely brilliant in both the dry & the wet.

Otherwise I'd always go Contis. Never got on with Schwalbe for some reason.

Gripton is their in-house name for one of their compounds, are they Turbo / Turbo Pro by chance?

I've been running these on my new road bike. Think they have done around 600 miles. Been pretty good so far and no punctures, but I don't commute on it.

Have used 28mm Conti GP4000S, and they were fantastic; the only puncture I got was due to a pot-hole...
Decided to see what the Vittoria Open Pave CG 27mm were like on my Synapse, especially on the rubbish roads were I ride - and they are similarly good. Have also tried the Challenge Strada Pro 25mm on my Domane 2.0 - and have only had 1 puncture with them.

With the autumn/ winter approaching, I've put a set of Conti GP4 Season on my winter wheels....

I have only three suggestions I'm afraid;

1. Continental Grand Prix 4 Season
2. Continental Grand Prix 4 Season
3. Continental Grand Prix 4 Season

Every now and again a manufacturer makes a product that is about as perfect as can be. And for £32 a pop if you don't mind no packaging and not supporting your LBS, a bargain. I did about 4,000 miles on my last set (running 4000S's in the summer), got maybe two punctures. Don't waste your money on anything else.

4 Seasons for me. A bit more puncture resistant than 4000s but you can't tell the difference otherwise. Never had a puncture in a couple of thousand miles on my current set.

Then again the 4000s were like that until they wore then the fairy came for multiple visits.

I ran the 2014 versions of those and found there "anti puncture" layer was complete crap. Fine for smooth continental road surfaces.

GP4k's I ran for 12 months riding through all sorts of weather, only 1 puncture which wrote the tyre off.

Changed to tubeless back then and apart from 1 issue won't be going back. If I was still on tubed tyres it would be the GP4k's.
