Hi - is anybody doing the Wiggle New Forest this weekend? I'm having some issues with differences between what the climb/distance says on their PDF, and what their Garmin files actually show! It's my first Sportive so I'm umm'ing and ahh'ing between the middle distance and the Epic, so the distance and climbing are particularly relevant !!!!

Thanks!

I have booked to do the Epic on Saturday, how much variation is there? Its just over 4500ft for the 100 miler isn't it? I noticed they have changed the route slightly in the last couple of days, it's now 101 miles with 100ft less climbing, if that makes a difference wink

ETA, just had a look, and yes, the Garmin shows 1000ft less climbing, which is quite substantial... I would think the Garmin data is less accurate, but best bet is to only do it if you are happy with the ~4600ft, and if its less, then great!

I have done the April New Forest Sportive three times. Worth noting that the sections across the top of the moorland can be quite tough as it can get quite windy up there.

Ah not good then with the forecast of strong winds on Saturday then..

Looks like the second feedstop means going back up the "long" route for the epic riders then turning back around and going on the epic loop.

Does it still go up Blissford hill or have they removed it because people kept getting off and walking?

Doesn't look like the route goes that way.

I'd not seen it before but want to try it now!

The hill is not that bad as it is short. Nomansland climb is the hardest hill in the New Forest that I have found...

I rode up a this nasty little b**ger on on Sunday in Wales - makes Blissford feel tame!

Hi all - would be good to get some hellos as I'm new to this road riding business! I'll keep an eye out for PH shirts smile Not that it'll help massively but I'm a girl (well ok I'm too old to be considered a girl anymore, anywhere except in my own head) on a white Trek Silque with a white Kask lid. Probably wearing a white Malojo top with a black picture on it and black shorts. Maybe bright coloured sleeves. Riding with a male mate and maybe 1-2 other people.

I think in km, and I rode 86km on Sunday with 1000km climbing around the Surrey Hills and that was enough.... still got one sore calf.. just for context smile

The Wiggle variation is significant in terms of the climbing involved. So which would you believe - the PDF document with the ride profile in it, or the Garmin files they've published this week (they seem to have been updated last night):

PDF pre-ride doc says the following:
Standard = 103km, 820m climbing
Epic = 162km, 1433m climbing

This week's Garmin says:
Standard = 103km, 573m climbing
Epic = 162km, 1067m climbing

(Last week's Garmin said:
Standard = 126km, 1080m climbing
Epic = 160km, 1500m climbing)

So it's all over the place. If I ignore last week's Garmin, that leaves me with still quite a difference between the PDF's opinion and Garmin's opinion of the climbing - 820m vs 573m, or 1433m vs 1067m. Quite a difference!

I'm currently thinking to do the standard but aim for a good finish time.....

To be Fair Jo, you managed 7 cat 4 hills in 50km and 30+ degrees of heat on a heavy ali bike with too few gears,
the new forest is going to be fine.

And sunday you rode well too, don't stress

Wow, I think 1000km climbing would make most peoples legs ache wink
on a more serious note, is anyone else doing it on Saturday then? I'll be wearing blue on a silver CAADX, desperately trying to keep up with my mate on his carbon giant.

Funnily enough my weekend cycle quartet have booked to ride the our 1st 100 miler around the New Forest on Thursday next week. I will no doubt be following the epic route from this year or a previous year. I rode a 65 mile lap of the Forest earlier in the year and enjoyed that. Hope its not windy at the weekend for you or for me next week as the one thing i remember was some very long straight exposed roads which i wouldn't want to battle a headwind on.

Saturday epic route for me. Will be driving down from oxfordshire at silly o'clock but gives time to wake up and body to start working before hitting the bike. (am not great first thing!)

Should be wearing my PH top and on a black specialized allez and grey lid.

Haha oops !!!!!!

I'm there Saturday, I think I've decided to do the Standard route though, not the Epic.

Leave even earlier! last year the traffic queue to get in delayed our start by 90 mins!

Oh I hadn't thought of that! How long did you sit in traffic for? We're driving there from Surrey...

I think every ride I have done from there has taken me ages to do the last couple of miles. Traffic jam was basically full of cars with back racks!

The Mega Meon (Portsmouth) is a bit better as its more dual carriage ways.
