I've managed to wangle free tickets, not that they were expensive anyway at £13.50 for adults. I've also booked some test rides to see what some of the new bikes are all about!

I was contemplating going to speak to some people about finding a bike that fits my weird sizing but I'm concerned the people on the stands will be the typical marketing type folks that you find at these kind of events and I'm reluctant waste a day of my life finding that out. I messaged Colnago UK about what size bikes there are taking and if anyone will be there to discuss sizing on their high geometry C60 but not had a reply.

You'll find plenty of Product people to speak to regarding sizing up.However, they arent really bike shops and they arent really trying to sell you a bike and they arent really interested in giving out information to a bloke at a busy bike show who wants to get sizing info so he can buy some piece of s

I'll assume your rant is directed at me so allow me to retort. t cheap off the internet rather than spending his hard earned dosh with the back bone of the Cycle trade and the people who pay the manufacturers wagesIf by backbone of the cycle trade (which is laughable) you mean the LBS then firstly in the past 4 years I've bought 4 bikes, all from a small LBS so I think I've done my share of supporting "the backbone" of the cycle industry. However what I'm finding more and more is that LBS just want to push onto you whatever brand they make the most margin on rather than saying we don't have a bike that fits you even if that bike ends up with a flipped 80mm stem and a saddle to bar drop of 130mm.
I recently went for a bike fit to help identify the geometries that would work for me. Within 5 mins I was told the best option would probably be a bike they sold and the sales patter continued throughout the 2.5 hour fitting.
One of the bikes that appears will work is a c60 with the high geometry. Most Colnago dealers near me have never come across this geometry on the c60 never mind have a bike in the showroom that you can apply your seatpost height to. I was hoping I might have more luck at the show.

Not been for a couple of years, but there is very little 'for sale' I had a few friends in the industry and on stands, and if a customer liked/wanted something the best they could do was a free t-shirt and a pointer to their nearest stockist.I'd call it more of a trade show than a consumer one. There certainly wasn't a lot to buy if you wanted a shopping trip, but I got 75% what I wanted out of it, but I won't be going next year.
There were lots of lovely TI bikes and frames on display, inc Gruffy's, which I had a quick look at. Had a good chat with Planet X about the next frame I'm looking at, and also had a good chat with Mike Hall.
Laser are offering between 25 and 50% off lids, so I picked up a new lid, everything else I wanted is either cheaper online or wasn't for sale there.
There were lots of lovely TI bikes and frames on display, inc Gruffy's, which I had a quick look at. Had a good chat with Planet X about the next frame I'm looking at, and also had a good chat with Mike Hall.

Highlights were a great chat with Carl Jennings, one of the Whyte Enduro team (I'll almost certainly be ordering a Whyte Wessex) and James Beresford, the man behind Vaaru Cycles, whose frames are a work of art.
No, it wasn't a show for stocking up on kit but, as a cycling enthusiast, I loved it! It helped getting there early on the quietest day; the first few hours were great.
The only downside was finding that Birmingham International now charges the same for parking as the NEC...
