Was only half paying attention and initially thought that the sportive was 100 miles not 100k. I was impressed and depressed in equal measure when some of them came in on the low 4 hour mark.

Was a bit shallow and sensational (lets be honest, Channel 5 know their audience) but it was nice to see several of them get bitten by the bug. Although I'm sure none of us have ever got carried away and taken a sportive too seriously.

did anyone else spot the PH jersey at about 36 mins in? start of the sportive section there was a white/yellow/black jersey.
I cannot remember what top I was riding but it was a good "sportive" no official timing all money to charity.

I found the middle pretty tough as I hadn't really checked the route and wasn't expecting as much vertical. We did see Amy at the end but none of the others.

I know it's for a wider audience but would have been good to see their FTP numbers.
I'm relieved I'm not the only person disappointed they didn't tell us. Perhaps in a later episode alongside a big reveal of who has gained how many watts.

Quite enjoyed it, and easy to forget how intimidating it is for newcomers.. even with a bit of tv drama. Must do some longer rides myself!

Managed to get a look on catch up.

I thought the Bostin Peaks came out of it pretty good and I managed to sneak into a couple of shots at the start and the first feed station.

I stayed with Louis on the run back into Uttoxeter then finished a few minutes ahead of him at the end.

I couldn't live with him beating me!

Just watched it on catch-up, and whilst it's hardly high brow, it's not the worst thing in the world.

I've switched my team now. Amy all the way. smile

Yep, coming across as a right little diva. I think if she could just get over her fear of falling, she'd could be one of the front runners.

Everything is so over exaggerated and made to sound much more dangerous that it really is rolleyesgrumpy

It's no harder than going zero to a marathon distance run in 8 weeks

I think Goughie's condition has been deteriorating, probably for the last 10 years I reckon. hehe

I have to take issue with that! I can't imagine anyone who hasn't run being able to do a marathon. No way, nothing to over 4 hours running? Every time I stop and then start again it takes me a month to get up to 5 miles.

Any much over 4hrs it isn't really running wink

All a matter of pace. How long does it take to do 26 miles at a brisk walk - 6hrs? If you can't get to that in 8 weeks..

You walk at almost 5 mph?!?!
I never got beyond half marathon distance but was happy with 1 hour 50. I still say a complete novice would find it VERY hard to run a marathon in 8 weeks. Doing the Etape would be a bit easier, but not massively

So apparently the Surrey hills are the UK's most challenging terrain. hehe
