Finally caught the last episode.
I too, did the Col de Joux Planes on a trip to Morzine back in June.
Those who say it's not tough, clearly have little experience of riding in the Alps. :-)
From Samoens, it's a constant gradient for 1000m vertically. Some of the hairpins cause you to bog down and struggling to maintain any cadence.
There is little in the UK that compares to the scale....

I did the Etap at the same time as these guys and enjoyed this episode.
The last climb was a nightmare given the heat but in reality there was no way the broom wagon was going to catch anyone up. Ramas was taken out due to a landslide so the day was easier than it could have been. Given how hard getting up Joux Plane was I think if Ramas had been before it would of destroyed lots of people.
As for Hugos puncture - I had an hour messing around with punctures on the galibier. I only had air and a tube for one puncture and got two which screwed me big time. The heat coupled with braking kept popping inner tubes.
Good show though and I think it gave a flavour of the event.
The last climb was a nightmare given the heat but in reality there was no way the broom wagon was going to catch anyone up. Ramas was taken out due to a landslide so the day was easier than it could have been. Given how hard getting up Joux Plane was I think if Ramas had been before it would of destroyed lots of people.

Just caught up with the last episode. Considering most of them were scared of descending, why were they not given bikes with disc brakes? Are they not allowed in the Etape?
I was really glad to hear Amy day she's found her athlete self again. It was really disappointing though that some of them were saying they'd never get on a bike again. Hardly the ideal message to be sending out.

I quite enjoyed the show, but, and I'm probably wrong, it did leave me thinking if they all managed to finish within the time then it can't be as hard as was made out. Angelica seemed to walk most of it, then when she did finish, nearly caused a crash on the line!
Amy the star of the show I think, just got on with it quietly unlike the cricketer and rugby player. I also liked that in the first episode she was the only one that waited around until the last person finished even though it was hours after she'd crossed the line.
Felt for Jodie Kidd, she could probably of done a much better time if she hadn't been injured and then struck by mechanical problems.

I 100% agree with this. The col du Joux Plane was extremely tough and I would of struggled to complete if teh Ramas had been included.I remember going past Jodie Kidd who was being interviewed about 1/3rd of the way up the Joux Plane, but I was concentrating on keeping my legs turning and was looking for some shade at that point.
