Lovely warm ride in this morning - shorts, base layer and Aldi cycling top. Bought 2 last year for £4.99 each and they are awesome - equivalent wind and shower resistance to my £100 Gore Windstopper. However, my wife washing and tumble drying my waterproof shorts, twice, has completely destroyed their waterproof properties, so need to do something about that - very soggy bottom yesterday.

Really looking forward to the ride home tonight as Manchester United are at home and I'll get to carve past all the gridlock. Started back in the saddle last week and the roads have been really quiet, even this week, so I've not been enjoying the benefit of being able to cycle home quicker than I can drive. Tonight will make up for that I'm sure.

A southern strike day again today so no trains. I drove to Purley and parked there and cycled into the city. Weather was great so fingerless mitts, bib shorts, short sleeve base layer and PH jersey for the win!
I got to the office earlier than I thought I would, probably quicker than the train on a good day.

Supposed to be colder later, so thinking about adding arm-warmers, long finger gloves and gilet to keep the chill off. Although I seem to be less togged up than other riders I see, I am definitely tending to over dress and generally feel warm when riding.

Yes, had a fab tail wind home last night, but this morning was a hard slog!

You know it never works like that, one minute before you finish work the wind direction will swap round.....

Been cycling last two weeks after getting winter cycling gear for Christmas...

Lots of lost ground to make up. 5 minutes slower over the same 8k commute from 6 months agoto!

3.5 miles in - 21.5 miles out every day this week so far. Weather permitting I'll do it again tomorrow and it will be the first 100 mile week for six months. Shame in that same timescale I've put on 3 of the 4 stones I had previously lost - makes downhill faster though ! Illness !!
Wind - spent all this evening replacing the whole drivetrain which I had been putting off - totally ridden the old Ultegra into the ground - slipping like mad as soon as I tried the slightest push - today I was spinning into the wind or up small hills to limit slipping.

No ride today, snow and ice are not my favourite conditions.

I looked out of the window, went back to bed and took the car later. all the roads to the main road were sheet ice or iced slush.

A week of riding in and no knee pain! Will try a longer way home to check (lovely conditions down here).

donned my metal studded snow tyres today. no snow on the ground but reassuring to have on the icy roads. lovely cold clear morning, a great way to start the day!

Cycled in. Took it easy on corners. The worst bit was the cold water/slush being flicked up the legs of my shorts - I now realise what the velcro adjusters at the bottom are for.

The weather looks really nice now, looking forward to a long and muddy ride home.

Some cold ones this week, and January drivers seem a bit more dopey than last years. Still, better than being jammed in Birmingham traffic.

The three months up to Christmas it was lovely, mild and dry.

So far this year its been either soaking wet or bloody freezing.

Grumble grumble.

Fresh ride this morning. Felt nearly as cold as my mountain bike ride last night!

Got a puncture this morning from a 1cm long shard of glass straight through the tyre. Trying to re-seat my tyre in the cold was rather tricky as there was just no stretch in the cold rubber. I squirted a bit of water on the rim to try and lube it up a little to aid getting the last bit on. Got there in the end and the puddle I had created with the water had promptly frozen solid!

It's nice to have more daylight in the morning, but I am going to miss the sunrises. There have been some good ones in the last couple of months.

We'll have sunsets on the commute again soon though.

(Cold this morning. Brrr.)
