Good tip. More than happy to save dosh and spend the voucher either on multiples, or other shiny toys for the bike!

The jacket I think is an area worth spending money on - both for the waterproofing as well as high end insulation layers. Better one really good jacket for a lot of conditions that 2-3 cheaper ones that do one set of conditions well in my mind.

(Although saying that, I'm debating 'insulated waterproof jacket' with 'good breathable waterproof and good insulated mid layer that could be an outer on dry days'!)

So much for being smug about how grippy the local cycle paths were. Struggled to pick the bike up after the second time I came off on the way home, the entire road was sheet ice. Walked the last couple of hundred yards and nearly dropped it a couple of times just trying to push it! Tomorrow morning isn't going to be pleasant.

-8 on my commute across the cheshire plain yesterday morning, went through a trough and it felt several degrees cooler.

The key for me in this weather is layers, not necessarily expensive gear, just layers.

I really like and rate base layers from galibier, this one in particular on very cold days is incredible and reasonable money

I also wear the mistral winter bib tights.

Ski gloves at the moment as they seem to keep my hands warmer than anything else.
It was about that for me too. It is really noticeable when you go alongside the canal or in a trough that the cold air pools there. It may not be that much, but it sure feels like it.

You guys are nuts to be using the pedal bike for commuting at the moment. It hit -6 by 7pm on the way back from work yesterday in the car, actually had a skid trying to slow down quickly from just 30mph to avoid a fox running across the road. It really doesn't take much to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and end up with some major physical issues as a result.

Having said that it also took me 1hr to do 6 miles in the car when going across town at rush hour as there was a crash on the ring road, even taking it really slow on the bike that would be 30 minutes max, plus some excerise vs sat in car.

Today am driving again, but leaving the car about 1 mile out of the centre to avoid traffic, walking the last mile in!!

I ‘had’ to cycle to a mate’s house last night - and home again. 6k each way and it was black ice there and back. Never had to concentrate so hard on a bike smile

Going to be the same on the bike to work this morning.

It’s ok as long as you only ride in straight lines. And don’t brake. Or accelerate. Or sneeze.

I wimped out and an waiting for the bus. Forecast still reckons is sub zero and there's still sheet ice on the paths.

Just passed some nutter cycling home in his wetsuit carrying a surfboard. biggrin

I cycled in. There were a few icy patches but by and large it was ok. Last night was much worse.

A little bird tells me you had a couple of ‘moments’ last night wink

The traffic was bad enough that I could finally take a snap of this highlight of my commute. Not a very good snap, regrettably.

Nearly binned it on the last roundabout before work yesterday. No other approaching traffic so flung it in for the apex as usual then nearly got highsided trying to catch it when the rear wanted to overtake the front.

Looks like all the rain that nearly drowned me on the way home on Tuesday has washed a load of crap out in to the road and a chunk of glass did a pretty comprehensive number on my rear tyre.

Only a small bit actually made it through and pierced the tube, dare say if I had set them up tubeless I wouldn’t have known about it.

Think the Conti Ride Tours are getting fitted this weekend.

I see from StreetView it's been squidged into the road since mid 2017.
