I'd go handbuilts. I had Ryde Pulse sprints built on DA hubs and they were about 2/3 price of Fulcrum Zeros, whilst being lighter and stronger. Plus when the toms wear out they can be rebuilt cheaply. Factory wheels are ok if really cheap but they're disposable

Think I am going to go for a set of the Ultegra 6800s. Tempted to totally upgrade my bike to an SLS SLR or even an AIR but figure a wheel upgrade would satisfy the upgrade itch for now..!

Tempted to go tubeless, anyone any strong opinions on this for or against and also recommendations on tyre supplier?

Also does Wiggle attract Britich cycling discount?

Cheers all

As mentioned previously I am a tubeless convert.

I run IRC tyres as supplied by thecycleclinic which have been bloody good to date.

Just be aware that having a 16 spoke front wheel means you're really limited to what you can come the rim being worn out, effectively forcing your hand to buy a new front wheel or wheelset.

You can but replacement rims from Shimano but they are ~£90.

when you say being 'worn out' do you mean after many miles the rim wears out from the brakes? I don't do enough miles obviously..!

Two winters destroys a rim in my experience. Or if you ride in the hills a few summers. When i enquired how much it would cost to change the rims on my Fulcrums it was £2-300. The handbuilts have better hubs and will last for a very long time. Not mention they have a decent amount of 'normal' spokes which anyone can change. Cheapy chips Fulcrum 7's are great for a winter wheel, but I learnt and moved to discs for the stty weather wink

Yeh pretty much and from I can tell the Ultegra rim walls are quite thin = shorter life.

I heard the same, two friends have them and do loads of miles and haven't worn them out yet. Obviously braking technique and block choice make some difference.

I have a boardman air and use Shimano C50's. I think they do an Ultegra version that is also 50mm deep that might fit in budget
