Been suffering quite severe knee pain on the inside of my left knee on the last two rides, initially thought it was mud in my spd so cleats so cleaned them but no difference, no other change to my cleat position, bike etc so at a loss as to what has caused it, got a physio booked for tomorrow to have a look.

The only thing I can think of is I changed to driving an automatic two months ago, could that really have an effect so quickly on my left legs muscles ?

It does normally come down to cleat position, but if you've been riding with the same shoes for ages and haven't moved your cleats on purpose, is it possible they've been knocked out of alignment?

Also, if you've never used a roller before, there's no way you'll be prepared for how painful some of the exercises can be.

Will ask the physio about rolling the itb, my cleats haven't moved as I had drawn a line round them when they were fitted, hopefully more knowledge after the physio.

Has your mileage / type of routes changed recently? May be overuse if you've suddenly increased mileage.

Agree with the comments above on foam rolling BTW - bloody painful the first few times, but definitely worth incorporating some rolling / stretching and core strengthening work into your routine if you don't already

Seen the physio, no damage to the knee, quad tendon is angry over the knee and he seems to think it could be my ankle as I slightly injured it whilst skiing and i might be protecting it and causIng an imbalance.

Quad sounds plausible. But I would suggest muscle imbalance more than compensating for another issue since you haven't changed your bike or cleats. (I have no medical training. Muscle imbalances tend to cause pain in a location other than where the cause is.

Years ago I had a bad case of "runners knee"

My Vastus Medialis was weaker than my Lateratis. And essentially after running for 2-3K it would start pulling my kneecap unevenly.

Did a variation of the first exercise in this vid.

Again. Caution. Girl is HOT biggrin

After 10 reps 3-4 times a day for a couple weeks it started to fire ok and then normal running was ok as the muscle went back to growing like normal. (make sense) Pain went as well.

Give it some thought.

Another hot girl ! lick the physio has given me that exercise but what I have noticed is that my left ankle is incredibly weak, can balance on it but wobble around like I'm on a deck of a boat in rough seas.

Looks like ankle anterior impingement and I guess weeks off the bike. What can I do to keep fit, can't run, don't like swimming...

I had a few weeks off recently due to Bursitis

I upped the Yoga and Pilates , avoiding anything on knees

I dug out my weights bench and started hitting that hard doing 5 x routines with dumbbells and barbells, working core, arms , back and chest

I got quite into the above, normally cycling comes first, so by the time I I do the weights etc i'm knackered from riding.

Was good to do a few weeks concentrating on core strength which helps on the bike and in life, body looked better as well

I find if you stay off the booze and eat well ive come back from weeks off feeling stronger....its the weeks off you take over Xmas and booze and eat shiite that takes its toll for me
