Indian Pacific wheel race, one for the dot watchers
Discussion
This is shaping up to be quiet the Battle Royale, its going to be adictive watching! It starts Saturday morning in Freemantle.
Its been quite interesting what this race develop over the last couple of months, with the riders announced.
There are some big names in attendance and we will see Mike Hall v Kristoff Alergaert for the first time, along with Sarah Hammond and Juliana Buhring going for it as well.

I'd say about 12 - 14 days for people like Mike and Kristof. Mike did the Tour Divide in sub 14 days and thats 2745 miles, Kristof did the TCR last year in 8+ change for 3000+ kms.

This dot watching is addictive!
Kristof, Hall and Carlsson are in the top 4, won't be long before we start to see big gaps forming. Kristof dropped back a few places after taking a short break a few hours ago, now he's back on top form at the front.
For those interested - some riders are doing live videos occasionally on FB/Yt. Check out Cycling Maven for example on YT.

This is the kind of pace I was expecting of them both, but without factoring in the tough weather they've had. Mike is suffering a bit with some unspecified issues that's taking his head out of the game. It's unlike him to whinge so it's a bit of a concern so early on. On the plus side it doesn't seem to be affecting his pace and he and Kristof are 'close enough' for now, but I hope it's not draining his reserves. I think it's day 4 & 5 where the first significant hit of fatigue arrives.
Kristof rarely posts anything during the races so we don't know how he's faring, though I'd be surprised if he was outside of his expected level of suffering at the moment.

Mike was dropping behind a bit and trying to match Kristof by out-suffering him on the sleep deprivation. He took a solid rest at the roadhouse before the Nullabor (which is where the resupply options disappear for a while) and now seems to be riding faster than Kristof, while matching his rest schedule.
I have to be honest, I'd written Mike's chances off yesterday but this changes everything. I didn't think he could match Kristof's riding pace let alone beat it. Perhaps Kristof has gone a little too hard in his bid to demoralise the competition early on. Or maybe Mike is pushing his pace too hard to claw his way back into contention. Let's see how this plays out over the next 24-36 hours, but this race is back on!
