Yep gone.

https://www.langsettcycles.co.uk/

Focus is now on the bike hire operation in Mallorca and who can blame them.

PH at its best.
Not as surprising as one might think at first though is it?

I mean, 'cyclists' is a broad term for many sub-sets of riding a bike even if we only take those who ride on roads into consideration. Hence different views as to what 'cycling' is for different people.

For those who view the bicycle as purely a mode of transport, their wants and needs will be for safe cycling-only lanes away from motorists and sturdy, long-lasting bikes, relatively low-cost and equipped and fit for their purposes. Casual cyclists out for a scenic ride with their kids will want similar but also to have speed limits on those lanes. Cyclists who enjoy it as a sport want the freedom to go as fast as their legs will enable them to do and so for them cycle lanes aren't always appropriate - my point in my earlier post - and bikes that aren't ideal for rough, gravelly lanes not best suited to their narrower, faster tyres.

If the UK had the infrastructure for the Commuters and Leisure cyclists, the industry locally would be better off in terms of cycle sales. Those who enjoy it as a sport can use the roads as they are, we just need some motorists to learn the Highway Code and accept that outside of a Motorway, they have to share public roads with cyclists and horse riders.

As someone who enjoys cycling in all its forms, I'd like a Netherlands-style infrastructure here and would certainly use it. While it would not stop me from using roads too, it would reduce my time on them and it would mean more cyclists are off them. On busier sections of road especially, they make sense in all cases for everyone.

I also love someone who has 272bhp as their username telling other people how they should use the roads we all pay for.

On that basis no drivers need more than 60bhp, should be limited to 70mph and should only use the roads for commuting or buying essential items. No drives for fun.

What an odd statement. I ride for fun and fitness as well.

But people driving in inner cities when a bicycle is faster, cheaper and less stressful is a no brainer. Many towns and streets are clogged with cars - something has to change.

We are at a weird point when saying we need more commuters on bikes in a forum called pedal powered is considered controversial.

There was a strong tail wind available yesterday. 35mph was nothing special despite what said posters ego believes.

It was your ‘who gives a fk about people riding for sport’

So not odd at all. Simply the natural endpoint of you deciding commuting it all it’s about.

You missed out the preceding 'In the grand scheme of things' and this was in response to a poster who suggested that cycle tracks are not built with roadies in mind.

They are not. In the same way that roads are not built with sporting endeavours in mind.

And yet many roads end up being great for driving. So it goes with cycling.

427 KOM's since July 2019 when I joined Strava and counting....

But it's true that Strava KOM's whilst they are good fun and good training motivation tools, aren't a good measure of whether someone can win a race or not. I've won several Cat 1 road races in my past and recently a fair number of MTB XC races for my age category in recent years.

I guess I like getting KOM's nowadays because I'm 55 soon and still beating younger lads; for me that's a personal achievement given knee injuries threatened to end my cycling altogether, so, yeah, I have an ego about that. When I was in my 20's/30's I couldn't imagine being dropped by a 50 yr old!

Lateral, actually, on my Winter bike with mud guards and shallow depth wheels. I'll look to improve upon my time on my Summer bike later in the year.

We're the same age Stu. Whatever you do, please don't enter the Southern XC races as I am probably going to get back to it biglaugh

Definitely get back into it. It's a lot of fun. I'm up North but do all my racing in Portugal and Spain - I prefer rocky, dry, hot trails for MTB.

For balance, I got dropped by a bunch of retirees, aka The Werthers Originals, yesterday.

Mind you, 2 of them are ex pros.

No shame in getting dropped. I'm used to it. Always someone stronger about.

I was dropped by a young lady from the Human Powered Health Team two years ago on the climb to Foia in the Algarve. We were riding with her boyfriend, Ivar Slik, the Dutch gravel Pro who won Unbound two years ago. I was dropped first by Ivar and my Coach and she then slowed to keep pace with another friend. I lost sight of her behind me and got into a nice rhythm, felt great, climbing well...and she suddenly appears and blows past me like I was going backwards! biglaugh

I did beat Ivar in a best of 5 sprints though and won't let him forget it!

Good points both of you.

The other factor is I am a fat weak punter at the moment, having had bursitis. I intend to get the miles in and get my own back by sitting in, then ramping up the pace on the hills.

Or more likely, moaning at the cafe stop.

I have to be nice to them though. I organise 3 Nat A' and B's a year and they are my convoy drivers...
