Buying from Chain Reaction at this time
Discussion
CRC stopped shipping overseas a while ago so haven’t been able to get any of the last minute stuff.
However I suspect a few of us will now feel the impact of their demise…
I bought from CRC for many years - would by almost everything - not just forks and groupsets but gloves, chains and tubes. It was all just so much cheaper and would be on my doorstep within a week.
I noticed a few years ago that the price difference wasn’t quite so great - some of this was to do with exchange rates but also some local stores had figured out online ordering and delivery systems. For the last 4-5 years I’ve not bought much as the local shops, one chain in particular, has been within 10-15% of CRC price, so I’ve gone down the road and bought it.
I now suspect that with their major international competition out of the game, the local prices will start moving upwards once more…

Anyone know how the other online retailers are doing? SuperStar components seems to have dissapeared and many of the others seems to have very limited stock.
Never thought that losing CRC/Wiggle would have such a big impact on my buying habits.

I don't think I'd buy a frame or bike (especially from the inflated prices that some are opportunistically asking for).
There will be no future spares available unless you go to a engineering spares shop etc.
I stupidly bought a carbon frame that I can't now return as they are liquidated.
However can you remember the last time you needed a shock bolt through etc? I can't.
Axels can be picked up and BETD supply mech hangers. If the frame cracks - plenty of carbom repair places.
Worsecase - the Fox X2 shock can be used for another frame and considering the retail on them along is 500? It's not a huge loss.
Ah boo, I didn't manage to get anything ordered in the fire sale before the sites closed down.
I did, however, get a great deal on a Nukeproof Megawatt Carbon RS eMTB, getting it next month. Hoping that someone will honour the warranty on the frame if it's ever required but if not then the deal was so good that I could just get a different frame and move all the parts over and still come out on top, I think!

Email to biketart - hi wheres my rim that I'm ordered? Yes it's in stock at the supplier. But your website says Hinstock on this particular item both before order and now..
I didn't even realise websites still did orders from supplier stock. Wow. Come back CRC. What we put up with before was shocking, no wonder CRC mopped up.

It’s pretty standard practice especially given the number of brands and then variations of each product to suit different wheel sizes. Very few can afford to hold stock of everything…the likes of CRC and Wiggle were unable to keep it up. I didn't even realise websites still did orders from supplier stock. Wow. Come back CRC. Biketart are tiny in comparison.
Luckily we still have a few decent online shops here in Europe. Here in Holland I use mantel.com a lot (who also ship to the uk I think) and also FuturumShop.nl and 12gobiking.nl. There are also decent online retailers in Germany and France.
I’ll miss CRC though, they were one of my go-to locations for random parts and bargains.

Merlin, Tweeks and being pally with my LBS from now on. TBH I only really used CRC and Wiggle for cheap bargains like £50 POC helmets, DHB softshells and cheap tools etc and rarely bought actual components from them (other than a whole frame...).
I suspect a lot in the industry are quietly pretty happy about this as customers will have to go somewhere and so it'll be a boost for them.

Lots of people will have filled their boots during the CRC sell off. Reckon there's a fair few garages out there stacked with inner tubes, tools, brake pads, chains & all the rest of it. I think the ripples will be felt for a while yet amongst the box shifters & we're still to see what Ashley does with the brands, Mind you, if he carrys on like he has with Evans, he'll be losing money hand over fist.
