Hi,

Looking for a decent Garmin compatible mount for my MTB.

I have a Garmin 1040 and I'd like it to be placed centrally - over the stem. It's a short (50mm) stem. Also needs to have decent retention. I have a SRAM mount currently which is quite frankly rubbish.

Any recommendations for mounts and pictures of 1000 series computers (1000/1030/1040) mounted to the....errrrr......mount would be really useful.

Thanks all.

I use a Harmin “out front” mount on my Canyon Spectral On: ; adjustable so it’s tucked right up to the stem, no issues at all - it’s with an Edge 830 (not sure). It’s not going anywhere - no issues doing 50 Hits at Dyfi, or trails.

Hopefully these are some use to you

I use a standard Garmin out front quarter turn mount like this, but reversed so the computer sits above the stem

The most important thing, however, is the fit the lanyard to the computer and loop it around your bars, passing the computer back through the lanyard. Then it doesn’t matter if it comes off the mount, it’s still going to be attached to the bars by the lanyard.

I’d recommend the one in my photos - it has another point of articulation than the one in the Amazon link. You can tuck it up much neater - I know this as I got my wife a Garmin for her Canyon and I can’t get it right with the standard out-front mount.

I’ve had some pretty big crashes (like huge nose first landings off jumps that end up with hospitals and brain scans yikes) and the nav has stayed on. However - a lanyard is a good idea.

I use these K-edge mounts. They do seem a bit pricier than I remember but they are quality items & very secure. As previously mentioned use the lanyard too, landing in the long grass upside down is much less painful if the Garmin is still tethered to the bike….

I use a stem cap mount which puts the Garmin right on top of the stem. Mine is Nukeproof but I don’t think you can get them anymore - plenty of others out there though.

For mountain biking I use this adhesive mount on my top tube from 76projects. It gives a little more crash protection as it won't be the most prominent point of contact with the ground when the bike is the wrong way up.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I'm gonna go for the Garmin over the stem mount.

I like the look of the one that sits on top of the steerer tube, but I think that one and the one that sticks to the top tube will put the computer too far out of my view.

Thanks for taking the time to post up some pictures. Appreciate it.
