N+1+1+1+1... yet again

Decided I wanted a fixed wheel to try, I've flipped the wheel on the single speed a couple of times to fixed but only for a short duration so never really got the hang of riding fixed. Then I saw this track bike come up for sale and decided to bite the bullet, it's taken me a week to sort it out and today was my first ride on it. Completely different to riding fixed gear at the velodrome and not something I would recommend you try out on the open roads before getting lots of car park practise.

Only one (front) brake required on fixed gear bikes

Left handed brake lever as it gives a smoother line to the caliper

Bought this on ebay for about £70

Took it apart using that hammer in the background...

Gave it a respray, the original paint job confirming it to be a 2000 Specialized Allez A1

Put the spare Fulcrum 7s I had on it, chopped the steerer tube, flipped the stem, bought a charge spoon, some deda bar tape and a DMR singlespeed spacer kit, found some cheap tiagra brakes in the STW classifieds and some Dia Compe levers on Wiggle and it looks like this...

53:16 since you ask and luckily the commute is pretty much flat...

All in its probably cost me under £200 though I did have the wheels spare. Even then, the original wheels were ok, the front was missing a spoke but thats easily sorted. I liked the black fulcrums so I used them instead. It makes me smile when I ride it and thats the main thing. The tyres are Michelin Dynamic Classic for you gum wall afficionados out there...

and its pronounced seh-lest wink

Just bought this off a friend of a friend.

Exactly the introduction to Road bikes I was looking for, with a known history for £130.

I only rode it up and down the road outside the house, and am not used to drop bars, but do those hoods (and levers) look a little high?

They do, but it looks like it might be due to the position of the brakes on the drops as opposed to the rotation of the bar.

OK so I don't actually own this yet, but I've placed the order and should have it next month. I've procrastinated for far too long.

My trusty steed:

2012 Yeti ASR-5
Fox 32s
RP2
Avid Elixir 5s (just about to be replaced with a set of Shimano Zees)
1 x 11 with MRP chain device
Chris King no thread set
Reverb 125mm dropper
Hope pro evo 2s with Stans flows (or crests, can never remember which) on 2.3 Advantages
40mm Renthal stem with Spike 777mm uncut bars

I think that is it - great all rounder XC bike that I've dialled a bit more of a DH flavour:
