Does look mean, although I can't help but feel the frame is slightly awkward with the top tube to seat stay angle in particular because of the slightly odd seat tube angle. If they'd made the seat tube more perpendicular, they could have lost the redundant extra small section of top tube.
On the strength of that photo, I went up to see them early this afternoon. Very nice blokes, and an awesome bike. There's a full suspension model on the way (next year, Dan said) which I got a sneak peak at (frame only in the delivery box). They insisted I have a scoot round the car park as well, so I tried a 15" and 17" frame. I reckon I'm sold on a 17" Zero now. I just have to pin down my budget, so I can decide between the '.4' or the '.3' in blue with white graphics and fork. Eversley, Hampshire (between Basingstoke/Reading/Camberley), if anyone is local and fancies a look or a test ride. Just call or email to book, and they'll tweak the demo bike to reflect the build spec you are interested in, in the right frame size.

Cool! Glad to see I've spread the good word about Bird. They, Ben, Dan and Dave are a really great bunch of blokes who are producing some fantastic bikes and the new full suspension model, seen it on Monday, looks amazing too! Nothing is too much trouble as you found out and would thoroughly recommend them if you are after an unbeatable spec, do anything hard tail.

Her indoors has bought a new racer. She may have upgraded the wheels too. Trumps mine with 11 speed Di2 Ultegra.

Those pedals had better not be what I think they are....tongue out

I finally bit the bullet and bought this, so far so good, apart from getting absolutely soaked on my first ride earlier. The pedals are only temporary until I get to the post office and collect the new ones

Chapeau!

Thank you! I can't believe how nice the headset is - that was my biggest indulgence.

It was kind of bought in bits - the Ultegra was stripped from my cycle to work Ribble bargain - I upgraded the groupset, saddles, stem, handlebars and seatpost to come in at £1k so I could transfer it over. With the tax saving it will cost less than buying all those parts separately, and I can flog the winter frame and Fulcrum 7 wheels for more savings. Plus it's interest free over a year!

The frame was on sale at Wiggle at the time for £6xx (it's back up to over £800 now), and I'll put my wheelsmith wheels (inc. powertap) on it that I already own.

Still doesn't come close to Dammit's winter bike(s). Damn it.

Very nice - and having a rust-proof winter bike is always a good idea.

Are you going to put mudguards on? I'm a total convert to mudguards I have to admit.

Absolutely.

Unfortunately it doesn't have eyelets, so will have to be some race blades with clip-on mudguards.

Just finished building up my new bike.
I was in Swinley Forest tonight building new Red trails with Trail Team Swinley - one of the guys there is the chap that runs the "bike hub" (the bike hire place at the lookout) - he had with him one of these. He has a few as hire bikes - think he said a half-day was around £30 if someone fancied an extended test ride.

Just bought this off ebay, 2006 Orange Patriot Excel, got some nice Hope bits on it and plenty of travel for my fat arse!
Not been mountain biking for ten years so looking forward to getting back into it and losing a bit of timber in the meantime.

yes Ti is really the only material for a winter bike. I have full length Crud Catcher Road Racer guards on mine. They can be a fag about but are a lot better than race blades at keeping the weather off.
