The one thing you'll soon learn is that MTb saddles are kept very low. There are 2 reasons for this: a) you want to be able to get your backside as far back and low down as possible for control and weight distribution on trails
b) if you leave it high, it will repeatedly smack you in the bks on washboard sections
I'm 5'8 but this is how small a frame I use so I can drop it a good 4"+ for XC/DH. You'll spend all youpr time standing up anyway during the trails, its not like you'll need to sit on it

Picked this up today. It's mega light, feels great. Very much a mtb virgin but I feel at home on this after trying a couple of cx bikes. It's dripping in Ti and has all the right bits. Planning to race it at Gorrick, cx races and general winter off road training. Brief ride today, very pleased.
If its mainly XC you are doing - looks bang on TBH - after all its been competing like that already. If its gets Gnarly? Thats what quick release clamps are for - but not ideal for a carbon frame if it is one. If you are going to do the more aggressive trails regularly it gives you an excuse to get another bike .My Whippet is awesome for flat out XC and Wiggle Off road sportives, and its set up pretty much like yours, but I'd never take it to a trail centre over my full suss even though I pay the weight penalty. For the type of riding you are saying you will be doing it looks just right - don't sacrifice your knees!

My new bike - it doesn't look quite so clean now after a blast through the local woods to test it out.

I've been after a Pashley Guvnor for a while but had no real need for one. Now my commute to work has drastically shortened, no need for full lycra clad roadie . I've added a set of mudguards and a vintage style front light. It's a fantastic ride, I'm most surprised. I've also managed to get a rack to fit as well for commuting tasks.
Behold the magnificent Guv'nor

I'd love to have a go on one of those. Was sorely tempted by the sovereign toaster.
Better to arrive in style, eh?
It sure is. I really enjoy riding it and don't seem to get the same grief as when I'm on the road bike. I also get a lot of complimentary comments too.Better to arrive in style, eh?
I'm also loving the bell, much more polite way to warn Muppet pedestrians walking out on the road without looking

Oh my bad...and in the bad books again with SWMBO as N+1 has grown another bike...
I've been admiring titanium frames for a while and love the idea of the low maintenance titanium frames are supposed to give, but I keep reading how the tubing can, and often does, eventually crack, which really puts me off spending over £1.5k for a bare frame. Then I discovered that Genesis have brought out a new Reynolds 931 stainless steel tubed bike fitted out with Shimano Ultegra groupset and wheels. I found a dealer close to me and they had one in stock in my size and with a bit of wheeling and dealing I managed to pick it up for a great price. Just need to change the saddle for a Prologo Scratch and it will be good to go. On the scales it comes in at just under 8.5kgs so slightly heavier than most of the bikes I have but I doubt I will notice any difference in my speed

Shop soiled, ex-demonstrator 2014 model so a few quid saved.
Not typical of the machinery here.
Once I'd man-handled this weighty monster from the boot and reassembled, took it for a brief spin around the block. I think I may quite like it - only time and miles will tell.
