It's a medium, not tiny smile!

Not sure what happened to the photo size?

Yes, I just meant the photo. Thought probably a medium or medium/large bike.

My new Pinnacle on its first proper ride, took it up on Portsdown Hill and found a few quick tracks on the way home from work. Rides really well.

And then on the way home I got a puncture and I didn't have any spare tubes (different size wheels than anything else I own typically) or pump with me! The joys of cycling biggrin Luckily popped in to my old work place and someone walked out as I got there who I blagged a lift from.

Finally had a go on the girlfriends commencal meta am 29. Compared to my enduro expert. I found it climbed brilliantly except for the very steepest tightest stuff where the extra weight and size over mine started to make it feel a bit clunkier. Downhill wise it was more confidence inspiring and much faster. Loved drop offs on it.

Overall I was faster everywhere. It does reduce the sensation of speed but I think it was just as fun! The other thing about it that I loved was the dropper. I absolutely must get one!

Before Front 3/4 by Ben Magee Creative Arts, on Flickr

Plus £750 worth of:

New Bike Bits! smile by Ben Magee Creative Arts, on Flickr

Equals:

After Front 3/4 by Ben Magee Creative Arts, on Flickr

Can't wait to get on it and give it some beans!

She started at 18kgs as ridden with panniers and lights etc. and 13.5kgs as it arrived from the shop, the wheels and tyres are over 2kgs lighter! With the new gearset, pedals and seat post she weighs in at 10.4kgs in race trim with the mudguards to come off on the day!smile

Ok so it's no carbon road bike but not bad for an ali-framed tourer, it'll do for now until I can afford something racier... smile

For £750 worth of wheels and group set etc, could you not have purchased a lighter bike, and kept the Dawes for winter/commuting duties?

It was a serious consideration but weight wasn't my overall/only objective, £750 was the absolute budget, I was tied to Evans Cycles through vouchers and when I added it all up I could have brought a new bike with an 'OK' frame and 'OK' gear on it - this way I have an OK frame with pretty good gear on it and I have the option of moving it to a better frame in the future if I want to, I have been toying with the idea of new kit on a vintage frame as a next winter project? (all the kit coming off is perfectly serviceable). Or if my master plan comes to fruition I'll have a carbon roadie with Di2 etc. for summer weekends and the like in 2016...

Plus, putting new bits on an existing bike is much easier to get past SWMBO that sneaking a whole new one in! wink

Interesting, I'm considering spending £500 on wheels & drivetrain on my £500 mountain bike, using similar logic.

Well, finally, after a shed load of miles on my Bianchi, the summer bike is nearing readiness for Spring. Pedals done, cages done, chain and drive all de greased and everything checked and as per standards running as showroom.

My Wheelsmith 50's arrive in a few weeks, which I personally think will finish the bike perfectly, no graphics. Can't wait to get back on it and see what my winter training has done for the bike.

Here's to the better weather and here's to summer bikes!

Two days in and I'm loving it! The reduced weight makes it feel like a different bike and the improved ratios have combined to bring my cruising speed up and tonight I not only PB'd a short Strava segment but made it into the all time top ten! smile

The only thing I have noticed is that the narrower wheel and tyre has highlighted something that I hadn't noticed until now - the accident that bent my first front wheel has skewed the forks! It looks square from the front and the wheel is square in the forks but looking down over the stem I can now see that the wheel is leant over a few degrees frown - Guess what I'll be buying next month...

I once tried denying/defending the 'triggers broom' remarks from family and friends... now I realise that this is the cycling way! (I have looked at carbon forks but really don't want to spend that sort of money!)
