I think that could be an excellent purchase. Were I buying a bike tomorrow, a GCF would top my list of potentials.

Look forward to your first ride report come early June!
Cheers man

Thanks Duncan.

Have a good look around before parting with you're hard earned at Evans , there's plenty of good bikes at good prices & not necessarily at Evans to be had out there .

Hello mate,

Evans have a deal with Tesco which doubles your vouchers, so I'm £210 up on the deal going in smile

That and it's my first bike so I want to get it from a shop, get fitted etc.

Evans aren't bad are they?

Evans are fine but the quality of shop staff will vary. I'd go in early to get the best service, going in at 1400 on a Saturday won't be the same as going in at 0930

No , Evans aren't that bad but i just don't like shopping with them., Defo buy some padded shorts & try & get some better tyres sir ,

Be warned Duncan that this cycling lark can get seriously addictive & expensive.

Look forward to hearing about you're first ride soon

Bought this on Saturday. Not as special as some on here but will do me for a while and is a huge leap on what I was riding.

Old Steel 1989 Bianchi has served me well.

I've got a B'twin Triban 500SE winging it's way to me now as my first road bike to replace my aging and quite frankly fked Carrera Subway.

I was a bit um and ah about the Microshift or Sora on the 500 but then I realise it's not the gearing that'll be holding me back, more the 16.5 stone I'm lugging around attached to my gut, decided to save the money as I'll probs upgrade later anyway and to focus on getting out on the thing and losing some timber. Plus I've heard it's not exactly the worst.

It's 10 miles to the shops down an amazing mountain route and they do fking lovely pies at the shop so I think I'll be out quite alot biggrin

Little bit excited.

Don't over-indulge on the pies or you'll need to take the bus back up the mountain!

Microshift stuff will be fine. Brakes are dog-doo though, you'll want to get those sorted if you're going downhill fast. Quite a few 5, 500 and 500SE owners on here.

They're supposed to be a very good bike for the mula, and I was going to definitely get one as my first bike until I noticed the Tesco/Evans deal. Also, the nearest Decathlon is 50 miles for me.

The road is an up and down section that ends at sea level, infact the only level bit is about 200m long. So I've been practicing climbing a fair bit. The pies will be earned biggrin

Brakes will be seen too! many blind corners on a single track road out here!

I suppose we'll find out, I am only really worried about the size, im 6ft2 and got it in a 57, Only because every other bike bigger I've sat on I feel over stretched so thought i'd try a bit smaller.

Whats the tesco/evans deal?

Hi Chris,

Tesco Clubcard Boost, £2.50 = £5 in Evans vouchers.

Turns out I had £106 in Tesco vouchers so it'd be rude not to smile

Oh bugger, sounds like a great deal,

Decathlon website says item not posted yet and still processing, no chance of delivery tommorow then frown

Ooh lovely.

You might get lucky with the build / delivery date. They quoted April 23rd when i ordered my Pro DX Cross in early March. It came 10 days early biggrin

Hi guys,

New to this forum, just thought I'd show off my new (very old) bike!
This is my first road bike, a hand-me-down, and I have no idea what frame it is. I'm new to the road world, but after my first ride I was well aware I needed some smaller gearing, so I've just ordered some shiny Tiagra compact cranks.

And seeing as I'm a mountain biker at heart here is my other steel ride!

Here's my latest purchase after upgrading from a secondhand Carrera Vengeance. It's no 4 figure + bike but it's like a different world to me at my skill/weight level.
It's a Rockrider 700S.
