Personally I think it looks better on the spokes than the spins...

No - 3 spokes!

Very much of that era - when things were new and radical (rather than now, when they are just a bit bigger.. then a bit bigger.. oh and now a bit wider..)

The spins have been on a couple of years but dont ride that well. So might sell them and use the cash for some lightweight ones for my other retro build

Never ridden spins but can imagine them being pretty harsh. The zaskar is a stiff ride at the best of timessmile
Didn't you have risers on before as well?

Yeh it’s had various spec changes recently. I’ve also put a nice XT group on this Zaskar and removed the XTR kit for another bike which I’m trying to collect bits for.

Awesome ..... is your seatpost 27.4? Mine is and I’m struggling to find one

No, 27.2 - have you tried that size?

Yeh 27.2 is too small. Bike came with a 27.4 but it’s not a nice post so wanted a Thomson or similar.

Coke can shims sound a bit ghetto, but work perfectly well for a 0.2mm difference.

Yeh that’s what my plan is. Just feels a bit wrong but suppose it’s only option. I’d ideally like a nice Ti post and handlebars but they mega cash for a retro pair

Have ordered my first hybrid via Vitality Health’s half price scheme with Evans (which is due to finish at the end of August).. BMC Alpenchallenge AC02 One.. was already 25% off so a good deal all in all.

Interested to see how I get on with the Gates belt drive and hub gears. My eldest son wants to take it to Uni with him next year but I think it’ll get nicked!
I got a Pinnacle Arkose 8 last year from Evans, which is incredibly similar to the current one:

https://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-arkose-a8-201...

I put Gatorskins, guards and a rack on it, and have used it as a commuter for over a year now. The hub can be a bit notchy, and could need a service, but the whole thing has been easier to keep serviceable through a winter of commuting.

I expect your belt is even better than the chain on mine, as it won't get all claggy with muddy oil gunk, right? Let us know how you get on!
Thanks, will do!

This is my Stanton Switchback. Tough as nails (because it’s made of the same stuff as nails...) trail shredder.

My third Stanton, because I love ‘em

Nice Stanton! I really liked mine.

I used to be quite derisive of the plus tyre thing, but turns out it's really good fun.

Ha ha.

I have to admit that I’ve not bonded with the Lynskey.
