Just bought this off ebay, 2006 Orange Patriot Excel, got some nice Hope bits on it and plenty of travel for my fat arse!
Not been mountain biking for ten years so looking forward to getting back into it and losing a bit of timber in the meantime.

Do you mind disclosing how much that was?

No i dont mind at all, paid £720 for it, few years old i know but was £2700 new and frames still go for good money, just needed a brake service and a new headset and its now good to go! Off to the lake district for the week tomorrow so its gonna get some good use.

That's lovely. Is that purely a downhill bike or a bit of can-do-everything type?

Fitted the mudguards on this weekend, ideal winter bike, running 42x16 gearing.

Thanks! Its more all mountain orientated but its easier going down the hills rather than up them!

Changed quite a few parts in the last couple of months:

Pike fork
Flow EX wheels on straight pull Pro 2Evo hubs
Zee brakes 200F 180R
Blackspire 32t narrow wide style chainring
Ardent race rear tyre

Next on the shopping list is a Hope T Rex 40t ring and new XT cassette plus changing to a 34t front.

VERY nice.... thumbup

(but I'd never have a smaller rotor on the back... never found myself running out of front brake, but in the Alps, I'd never say no to more back brake performance!)

Thanks - I actually changed from XT brakes as I was going to the Alps. I moved the 180 rotor to the back and got a 200 for the front. Never had any issue with them over 5 days of hard riding and I'm 95kg before kit!

Oh yes, it's kind of addictive, started with a mtb, then thought might as well train on the road with it as well, so this was bought, and have just finished building a sscx as well for the upcoming season.
