Your saddle looks nose down too, find yourself slipping off the front?

That's an interesting frame. It's so compact!

Hate those cable lockout forks. I don't know about this Fox one, but Rockshox ones have a major design flaw. The default position of the lockout is locked, so the entire time you are riding with the fork in what I would call the normal open position for riding trails, it's pulling that spring of the lockout open. If the cable comes loose... bang... the fork locks out. Beggars belief that they would design it like that, and only a tiny grub screw holds the cable into the top of the fork.

I will bear that in mind, thank you.
Edit - no idea about the RS, but these are a three way setting - 1- descending, 2, trail riding, 3, uphill. The third setting isn't locked, and it seems to me they would fail open, rather than closed?

I will report back....

Picked this up today. It's mega light, feels great. Very much a mtb virgin but I feel at home on this after trying a couple of cx bikes. It's dripping in Ti and has all the right bits. Planning to race it at Gorrick, cx races and general winter off road training. Brief ride today, very pleased.

I think I've got a broom handle you can borrow for a seatpost if you need some extra height biggrin

That's a good road position but off road someone will need a dropper...

I'll leave it as is for now, it has been ridden to top 30 in euro and world champs with a similar height (but talented) rider. Feels ok tbh we'll see tomorrow. I measured the height and it's bang on the same as my road bikes so I left it well alone smile So far it is so much quicker than my old cx bike over the rough stuff I wonder why I ever bothered with them.

You'll need to run your saddle a little lower than on your road bikes as an SPD (or whatever) cleat is recessed rather than raised above the sole of the shoe thereby increasing the pedal axle-saddle distance. Nice bike!

Just make sure there's enough post in there not to crack the frame.

Good points, cheers guys. Went out today and I was about a minute faster every 6 over a route I rode my cx bike on this time last year. Dropped a couple of blokes on 29ers and had a blast. Hugely faster downhill, It's a mega piece of kit, quite aggressive but reasonably soft at the rear. Never having had suspension before it's a revelation being able to hit big bumps and hold a line. Chuffed to bits. The Stans sealant and ZTR rims are bloody amazing. 30 psi no pinching and stloads of grip. Cant wait to race it.

Here's my Cannondale CAADx 105. 2013 model year that my LBS wanted to clear out, so it was a bit of a bargain. My first foray back into cycling in about 15 years and over the last month it's done everything I could ask of it:

Newly constructed though frame, forks, wheels, saddle and handlebars are about 6 years old. Temp pedals have been changed to something more suitable!

Depends what he's riding - general X/C and racing I reckon that's a pretty good set up, certainly similar to how I used to ride mine back in the 90s and I was pretty up there.
Trail riding on the other hand then I agree a dropper would be a good idea.

Enjoy, good bikes. The V-brakes aren't ideal but for the price I guess something has to give.

Shop soiled, ex-demonstrator 2014 model so a few quid saved.

Not typical of the machinery here. hehe

Once I'd man-handled this weighty monster from the boot and reassembled, took it for a brief spin around the block. I think I may quite like it - only time and miles will tell.

The one thing you'll soon learn is that MTb saddles are kept very low. There are 2 reasons for this:

a) you want to be able to get your backside as far back and low down as possible for control and weight distribution on trails
b) if you leave it high, it will repeatedly smack you in the bks on washboard sections

I'm 5'8 but this is how small a frame I use so I can drop it a good 4"+ for XC/DH. You'll spend all youpr time standing up anyway during the trails, its not like you'll need to sit on it

If its mainly XC you are doing - looks bang on TBH - after all its been competing like that already. If its gets Gnarly? Thats what quick release clamps are for - but not ideal for a carbon frame if it is one. If you are going to do the more aggressive trails regularly it gives you an excuse to get another bike wink.

My Whippet is awesome for flat out XC and Wiggle Off road sportives, and its set up pretty much like yours, but I'd never take it to a trail centre over my full suss even though I pay the weight penalty. For the type of riding you are saying you will be doing it looks just right - don't sacrifice your knees!
