Kin 'ell mate, that looks nasty, but I'm sure it will heal up in time. No matter what, it could have been worse.
That's got me thinking, after I got helicoptered off White's back in August, I promised I would do some kind of charity event to raise some money for the Welsh Air Ambulance. I felt like such a cocktard getting loaded into the back of something that costs gazillions per hour to run just because I was trying to go a bit heroic down Darkside and messed it up.
Does anyone fancy some kind of organised "PH does Afan" weekend, camping, beer, riding, and we cough some cash up ourselves and perhaps have some kind of sponsored ride too to raise some cash for the chopper?
For anyone who rides the Welsh trails, next time, it could be you...

Si and i must have passed 30-40 folk on our lap and only 1 crazy guy on a single speed scalped us.
That may have been me :PI was at Afan, did all 4 trails (Skyline, Whites, Wall, Penhydd).
Passed the accident while riding Whites level, although there was plenty of people there to deal with it.
Glad your not too badly hurt Chris and hope your back on the bike quick sharp!
Yeh all 4 non-stop.
It took just under 6hrs, starting and finishing at Glyncorrwg.

The lad that passed us on the single speed was, err how can i put this without sounding like a tool, errr not your usual XC-whippet type, not round but built like the proverbial outshouse. If you that was you grinding up the climb of whytes out your saddle then kudos to you sir!
Chris - that photo really does show you gave yourself a good mangling. get well and back on the bike soon

Well I'm not exactly what you would call big. 61kg and 5'6". Maybe not me.I did Whites climb twice, once around 9am and again about 11.30am. Riding a Focus hardtail.
I didn't use W2, because I was attempting to beat a time set by someone else who used the low-level link. I don't think W2 would add any time/distance, it may even be slightly quicker.

Only just seen this thread. Looks nasty Chris but glad you're ok Had a tumble at Afan on Whites' a couple of months back with a scar on my arm to prove it (bloody double switch back )
Out of interest, I assume you were wearing a normal cycling helmet rather than a full face? A lot of my mates have started using full face helmets for all their riding (including trail centres) and not just downhill/free riding. Think I might follow suit....

It does look about head sized, doesnt it?
Still, least you can say you've had a ride in a whirly bird.
RE my comments earlier about scarring/healing - that pic looks EXACTLY how I looked, about the same level of bruising/scabbiness/stitches.
My point being - dont worry, it will heal well.
Although for the first year you will have a very novel way of working out the relative humidity and temperature, based on a sliding colour scale from deep purple to bright red.
You just have to look in the mirror... I kid you not.

Crikey, get well soon chap. Im looking at picture 4 and thinking is that the broken board which caused the crash or is that the dent your head made??????
And importantly.........was your bike ok?
That my friend... is the dent my head made! if you look at the wire, you can see where the impact tore it and thats what did the damage. And importantly.........was your bike ok?
Snotrag - Cheers for that mate, whilst i'm trying not to worry about it too much, any reassurance is good
