2010 Passportes du Soleil PH Thread
Discussion
Hi guys.
Right registration for this event opens at 1am (according to Mandog) on February 10th.
Details can be found here:- http://www.passportesdusoleil.com/
Mandog, Pipe, atom111 and I will be booking our start from Morzine. We'll also be staying for the following week.
We'll be using 6-inch bikes from Cove, Orange and Chumba.
atom111 will be staying in his new camper van, Pipe and Mandog will be staying in the same chalet we used last year. Not sure where I'll be staying.
At this time we're riding on the Sunday. How about a PH BBQ meet on Sunday night?

Booo, not going this year, I'm spunking all my annual leave on a homeymoon this year.
What a place, what a playground! Enjoy it guys.
Passports looks fun on the outset but it seems like there's a lot of uphill and flat riding amongst it for a hairy-arsed lazy downhiller like me, plus the XC'ers trash the downhill trails on passports weekend by braking all the way round corners causing humungous braking bumps right where you want the grip.
We stayed in one 2 years ago right next to the Super Morzine lift and it was an awesome location. Stayed a bit out of town last year, nice hot tub and massive chalet but it was miles out of town and a slog of a push up the hill at the end of the day but that hot tub was gorgeous after beating ourselves up all day, bit weird having a bath in the garden with your mates.

We'll be in Morzine. The chalet we stayed in last year was 50yds from the Super Morzine lift so pretty central. Long weekend though. Very early start and big drive on the Saturday and then 75km ride on the Sunday.
That wasn't chalet Mandarin by any chance was it?We stayed in one 2 years ago right next to the Super Morzine lift and it was an awesome location. Well there are no more entries from Morzine or Les Gets left now.
As I'm staying in Morzine and starting from Les Gets, what is the best way to get to the start?
Could I just buy a single lift pass to get to the top of the Morzine lift then ride down to Les Gets?
Although it's not a race, for protection I'll be fully kitted up. I won't bother taking an XC lid on the trip.
I shall be using Minion/HR or Wet Screams if it's a mud fest, all aboard a 7" trail beast.

Can I ask a bit of advice from the alpine regulars ? I will be staying for the week after the Pds & this will be my first MTB trip to the Alps, am I better off being based in Morzine as opposed to Avoriaz to make the most of the trails ? I stayed in Avoriaz this January for a few days skiing & get the impression it could be fairly dead during the summer. I'll be riding a 5" Trail bike of some description & would like to do some XC riding during the week as opposed to purely DH.
Me and an aspiring future mrs moon have pinched a couple of the last tickets available.
Riding on Sunday from Le Crosets.
will probably stay down in the Alps for a week or 2 and do some riding round Cham/Morzine/Verbier if i can wangle it through work.
I'll get myself ph stickered up so come and say hi!
