The title catch your attention? biglaugh

Me and a workmate have taken it on ourselves to ride through Jordan for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Flying out 31 Oct and returning 6 Nov after covering just short of 250 miles in the Middle Eastern heat, A breif itinery is in the link

When I signed up in April I used to doss about on the mountain bike, longest ride had been about 30 miles somewhere around Oldham and Saddleworth,
But wanting to get fit or fitter I needed a target, an aim, and Marie Curie sent me a mail that I though was sadistically good, signed up and got myself in training.

Rather than just pedal pedal pedal I have got myself a personal trainer for an hour a week, started swimming alot more (1k once or twice a week dependant on work shifts) and running which I have never done before unless a ball was infront of me.
Since ive started training ive dropped around 4 inches off the waist, but not dropped much in weight at all.

At the current stage, I am on 25/27 hard hilly miles on the MTB and last weekend was my 1st proper hit on the new road bike, Saturday was 26 miles grueller over the Peaks on the Evans Ride It from New Mills (Jacobs Ladder etc) and Sunday the Manchester > Blackpool in 3hrs 20.

Here are my weapons of choice

GT Gtr series 2

Specialized Rockhopper

And this is me over 12 months ago 'dossing about'

I hope to use this thread to keep you updated of my progess both on and off the saddle (if the PH management allow thumbup) include a few pics, and more importantly, include alot of pictures from Jordan.

Hope you enjoy the reading as much as I hope to enjoy the trip, and if you wish to make a donation then feel free no matter how small, it is all welcome.

Nice view. That's from up near The Black Ladd isn't it? smile

OT: Do you dirve a blue 1 Series BMW? I see one in Oldham often and the plate is an anagram of your PH username. hehe

On topic: Very best of luck with the "event".

Think its about time there was an update as I fly out next Saturday

Trained like a hero the past few months, 2-3 hour cardio sessions in the gym 4-5 times a week, and getting the miles in on either the road or MTB,

Just put a hilly 45 miler in this morning and now ive been told to chill the training and save my energy, boring or what
I think I am ready, just gotta keep motivated for a week and pack my gear, joy.

Cant tell you though how excited I am to want to go conquer it so I can get back on the beer 2 months off it is now starting to get to me.

Cheers to all who have donated so far, and I dont mind if anyone else wants to add to the Marie Curie pot
