Welcome! biggrin

this is an elaborate ruse to get inspiration for my next car really....

specifically aimed at MTB'ers who've managed to get their bikes in (or suitably stowed on) their PH-worthy-drivers-cars!

I have a Specialized Pitch Pro, and want it to fit in (preferably... on, at a push) my next car, so post up your inspiration and other assorted pics of big mtb's in fun cars smile

thanks all....

no pictures but with a bit of working two bikes fit in the back of a 2002 three door clio with the rear seats down. it involves two people and a lot of pipe insulation...

personally, i think investing in a quality roof rack is far easier. not only are the bikes out of the car and less susceptible to damage from bumping against each other but with two bikes in the back, there was no room for gear.

I haven't got any pics of my bikes in my cars but with both wheels off you can get 1 bike in the back of a Porsche 968 (rear seats folded forward) and (again with the seats forward) you can get 2 bikes in the rear of a VW Scirocco MK3.

On the way back from Exeter a couple of months ago I spotted a Lotus Elise with a bike on the passenger seat, wheels off the bike and roof off the car.

Also - my previous Fabia VRS could take 2 bikes and had just enough room for luggage (not camping gear) for a trip to Wales.

Again, no picture but I can get my GT Avalanche MTB into the boot of my TVR Tuscan. All I have to do is drop the two wheels out of the frame and then slightly wiggle it into place - Can't take the roof off and stow that as well though!

Oh c0ck, I took the perfect picture almost purpose-made for this thread but don't have it downloaded from the camera yet: my MTB in the boot of my Z4 smile

Involves unbolting the stem and removing the forks though, so not exactly ideal for frequent riding. I can still get the roof down too.

I've managed two full sus mountain bikes (Stumpy FSR and Canyon), in the back of my 5 door 1 series with the back seats down, seat posts removed and both wheels on both bikes removed as well. Not to mention a lot of tarpaulin to protect the trim and interior! hehe

Whilst neither are exactly PH Drivers cars I can confirm that i can easily get two mountain bikes (all wheels on) into the back of an 05 Passat estate with room enough for changes of clothes and other essentials for a long days cycling, or with front wheels off I can get tents, cooking stuff, and enough clothes for a week away. I can also confirm that my wifes 207CC is completely incapable of carrying a bike without crushing all components first.

the simple answer? get yourself a classic landie for towing the bikes, and keep the drivers car nice and safe from all the nasty mud that carrying bikes would doubtless introduce to your interior.

Saw a mk1 mx5 a few weeks back in traffic, he had somehow managed to get a full mtb into the passenger seat space.

I just thought bravo my good man smile

Same as Rob really. Audi A6, two mtbs, all the camping equipment a wife would bring, plus her bags of clothes, my spare pants and our bike helmets. Plenty of room for more stuff.

Done it plenty of times. Been to races with the bike, tent, gazeebo, tools, gear etc, all IN my MX5.

Normally do it like this though, as its easier, doesnt mess up the interior as much and I can take a passenger.

Roof goes down, boot opens and everything.

Do you think I could get four people and two MTBs inside a Multipla? Thinking of buying one precisely for this reason.

Going by that picture and having run a couple of Multiplas many many years ago I would say yes.

Three people in the front, leave one rear seat in and two bikes in the gaps left by the two missing seats.

I think.....!

Whilst I am not the brother of 'B52er' [aside]'Groove is in the heart' still reminds me of my mispent youth[/aside] I do have a E46 330i touring.

With the seats down I can easily get my 700c wheeled commuting bike in with the wheels on. I've also had a mountain bike stood upright (front wheel off and seat post down) with just the '40' part of the 60/40 split rear seat folded and with the forks in the passenger footwell.

Eh? Groove is in the heart was by Deee-Lite. confused

Anyway, back on topic....

You can easily fit 3 bikes and camping gear in theback of a Mercedes Vito. biggrin

You just need to broaden your definition of PHer's car! tongue out

No pics, but you can easily get a bike in the back of a current shape TT with the seats folded flat and just the front wheel removed.

So it was. How embarrassing. 'Love Shack' that was the B52s wasn't it? Can we all pretend that's what I meant.

Not my car, but a mate who I used to MTB with had a Mitubishi L200 animal jobbie

with one of these:

You could manage 5 DH rigs, 5 guys and all the kit that goes with it under the bikes.

While it is a pretty extreme solution, if you bike alot, and are loaded, it makes sense.

I have had 2 DH bikes (or 3 roadies) in the back of my corsa with the seats down no bother, but I don't give a st about grease marks on the roof etc. If I had something nicer, I would probably think twice before squeezing loads of bikes in there.
