Local bike shop stocks this brand and I had a nosey on Sunday. Seem to be rather cheap really, although price does vary depending on the components, it never reaches a dizzy height for the Onix model.

This isn't my local shop, but gives a good example of the price: http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/Orbea_Onix.html

Any views or experiences on this brand? Cycling Plus describes them as 'race ready, entry level'

I do like how they look......

Good solid bikes from a respected and long established Spanish maker. A million club riders across Europe can't be wrong.... Primo in Cambridge have been known to do some good deals wink

I have two friends with Orbea bikes, and they love them - not heard a bad word from either of them.

I bought entry level Onix (tiagra groupset) at Christmas last year as my first road bike. Can't really fault it, looks good and has been comfortable on 100+ mile rides.

If you think they dont reach dizzying heights have a look at the ORCA cracking bike but can go too big money.

Oh indeed, but the model I mentioned seems reasonable. One to consider I think.

thats a bit of an eclectic line up!!! the Espirit frame alone is more than the built up Cayo?
you ahve everything from horizontal ti frames to swoopy carbon sportives?...can i add a few more? the Kuota Kebel is criminally over looked but an ace frame and the Basso Laguna is worth a look

The Kuota is on there too, my budget is around the 2k mark but I have not cycled a road bike in a while so just seeing what's out there, I used to do lots of riding when I was in my late teens did a couple of cols when I had holidays in northern Spain and the south of France, but the game has moved on massively since then and so have I so keeping all options open to see what suits me best.

That too.

The thing that appeals with the TI is that it could be a bike for life or a few years at least were as with the carbon has a shelf life and makes me nervous if I have a fall hit a pot hole etc, the plus side is it looks great I am not going to go into frame stiffness and comfort etc as I feel a lot of that comes down to geoemtry and not purely the materials used.

Think you can worry too much about all this stuff ('though it's a nice problem to have); some of the best rides I have seen from club racers have been on 'old' or less than trendy kit.... legs, lungs, determination and bike - that order wink

You should see my hardtail and old 2004 hardrock, it lives up to its name as it has never broken apart from a headset and chain and it weighs as much as a large rock, I dare not put on a scale to see how much it weighs but it gives me a good workout.

P.S. Apologies for going completely off topic

I've got a 2010 onix, bought from epic as they were near where I was working at the time. I really like mine, best fitting bike I tried for me, and it goes like the clappers when pushed.

Epic were great as well, they are based in the middle of nowhere in a barn and so the test rides were fantastic.

Plus, I've never seen another on the road so it stands out a lot (helps that mine is the carbon finish with orange decals!)
