Need to buy a decent pump with built in pressure gauge, must do both Presta and Schreader valves. Needs a decent length hose. Budget up to £30. Is that enough?

£30 should be plenty. I use a Bontrager one that cost £19.99 I think. Seems to work fine and has a clever nozzle so no faffing about changing adaptors for Presta/Schrader.

the Joe Blows consistently get superb reviews, just make sure its capable of the pressure you want if you're going to use it on a road bike - i dont believe their cheapest models get to 100 psi

This pump will go up to 100 psi but be warned treat it gently as mine broke within a month where the top plastic insert sleeve meets the tube, it did not lose pressure but meant you had to control your strokes and made it difficult to get a full stroke out of the pump.

I've never used anything else, but I have one of these and I'm perfectly happy with it: http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/P...

Seems plenty sturdy enough, easy to attach to both types of valve, has an air-bed adaptor and ball adaptor hidden in the handle and will reach 120+ psi easily.

I have the cheapest one and it will easily go to 115psi

Many year ago when I worked in a shop, Joe Blows wouldn't last a week. Blackburns would last longer, and Specialized the best of the lot.

Good to know don't have a road bike yet so only use it on my MTB and seems happy going up to 90-100 psi

Another Joe Blow user here. Its a superb pump and I have no problem putting 120psi in the road bikes.

I had a Halfords one before. It lasted a year and was fine for the mtbs but you were bouncing down, feet off the ground, to get over 110psi out of it. It had a larger diameter so pumped slightly quicker but needed more weight to push out high pressures. Eventually the valve socket head broke and I bought the Joe Blow. It feels much better made than the Halford's one and has a nice locking lever for the valve sockets. No looking back, its the perfect pump.

Another Joe Blow convert here. The Ronseal of track pumps IMHO. For quick inflating of my tires it's awesome. Get one!

and dont forget with the joe blow you can buy replacement parts. A ten quid pump from halfords might be ok but once the head has snapped youve had it

Or alternatively buy the Blackburn one, which as well as being fully serviceable comes with a lifetime warranty...

they look cheap enough

but I can hardly say their reputation comes before them - must admit I had never heard about them until today.

I bought one on a whim because it was cheap and had a decent warranty but as I said above, I'm very happy with it (not that I have a great amount to compare it too).

Joe Blow Sport.

Less than 30 online and goes to 160psi easily.

We have one and it's used regularly without fault. Well worth the money and if people are breaking it they're doing something very wrong, it's solid as a rock.

Ha, just looked at mine and its the Sport, too. It has a cool carbon fibre face on the dial.

Works great and looks great.
