I would have thought this picture would have summed up the reasons for wearing a helmet rather succinctly.

Alternatively...

'Wear a helmet they protect your head' - better?

Honestly.

You'd have been better off trying to educate me in a friendly manner, explaining the dangers and the safety aspects, but your reply just makes you sound like a complete prick.
Are you for real - you need someone to explain the dangers? Jesus you must be thick.

OK then -

my back has still not recovered and I've been to hospital/doctors multiple times trying to get it resolved
If you had landed on your head rather than your back you'd stand a good chance of being a vegetable.

It's not bloody rocket science.

It's a bit late deleting your post when someone has quoted your photo. hehe

If the fella doesn't wanna wear a helmet who are you to come here and tell him off. He's 38 ffs, and has managed to survive for that long with apparently no issues.

Do you shout at random smoking strangers too?

I've now deleted the story, it was supposed to be a bit of fun. If people think I didn't learn a lesson, even though I stated I've been to doctors/hopsital multiple times in the last year since my accident, and want to come on here shouting at me then I really cannot be arsed with getting involved.

I'll quite happily ride without a helmet most of the time, it's a risk/benefit analysis - helmets are hassle and popping down the shops without one is no problem. Similarly, I have just under 40mph without a helmet down a hill on my roadie without a helmet, no issues. But I didn't crash.

However, going mountain biking, especially jumping where a clear lack of skill is evident without a helmet really is stupid. See pic above.

OP - If you're not happy opening yourself up to ridicule, especially when posting crash pics then you need to re-evaluate your understanding of forums like these. We're all adults here (most of us) and can hopefully take the rough with the smooth.

I'm glad you got to the age of 38 without any serious head injuries. How about you try and keep things that way?

Oh, and I wheelied the MTB outside the LBS, went straight over the back and had to jump the wreckage. Very embarrassing but no helmets were damaged once again biggrin

I've been around forums for longer than I can remember but rarely do I come across rude people like you replying on my threads. I was asked in another section to put up the full story, I did, I've now removed it.
You obviously have no real problems in your life if a picture of me not wearing a helmet down the local park gets you so irrate.
I object to your 1st post, as much as I know I should've had a helmet on, the way you come across just turns me the other way and now nothing you say is of any interest to me.

I seem to have forgotten the days when we all died on our bikes before helmets were invented.

I like it when we go to Belgium or Holland and see literally millions of cyclists who still don't know they've been invented.

I like it how here in Britain every other car is a 4x4 and almost every bike is a 'mountain' bike. smile

no wait, you forget, there was a post on here couple of weeks back where some lad saw a car without.... without.... *sob* .... i'm not sure i can bring myself to say it, oh the torment......... ok i'll be brave....... he saw a car without head rests on the front seats!!!!!!!! Most dangerous thing he'd ever seen apparantly as it guarantees you will break your neck the moment you start the engine. I need a lie down...
