Yeah - I haven't commuted for 14 days or run for 13.

However I have a good excuse - I've had pleurisy (.....!).

I finished the course of antbiotics on Saturday and will be back in the saddle this week.

Done very little recently, not helped that I've spent the last three weekends in England instead of the Netherlands.

Not a dig, but I see and hear this sort of comment a lot. If you can't get out and ride, then adjust your calorie consumption accordingly to reflect your exercise load and weight gain won't be such a problem As the frigging meercat would say, ...

Consistently doing about 100 miles a week now, and pushing for even more. The scales have dropped by about 6 lb in a month, but more importantly my legs have beefed up considerably, far more than they ever did on the MTB.

I'm hoping the winter won't be too bad, I don't want anything to stop me. I fancy riding across Wales next summer, and I want to be 3 stone lighter to do it.

Completely agree. What was nice when I was avidly using the bike was not worrying about my diet but alas I have not adjusted.

Went out for the last time two weeks ago... came back soaking wet and cold to the bone. Haven't been since. I need to clean my bike first and get some decent winter clothing (long trousers and a windstopper) before I go out again. Cleaning was supposed to happen last weekend, but after redoing the storage room, I coudn't be arsed to do anything else rolleyes

Got a pair of trousers (ZeroRH+) and a jacket (Pearl Izumi) so I went out again yesterday. Felt good, bit cold but not to much wind. Allthough I thought I was slower than usual because I hadn't ridden for a few weeks, I managed to beat my last best time by 10 seconds... weird.

Going out again this weekend smile

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fattie but it was nice to scoff a couple of pieces of cake at the office, or the Friday takeaway, knowing that it would be burned off on the way home or the next day.

You're right though, it's now about moderation.

At least it's not just me. Late October/early November started off with some great healthy eating that lasted a week and I seem to have given up since then.

Football once a week and on the bike one day at the weekend seems to be it. Can't even see me hitting 100+ miles this month for the first time this year.

If the weather really hits now I could be heading into 2011 with no fitness and the heaviest I've been for years. At least it'll be a challenging year!

I struggled for a couple of weeks to get out due to poor weather. Things have improved a little since, and actually managed 28 miles in the Peaks on the full-suss MTB last weekend, plus a 45 mile commute (there and back) on the hardtail this week (really should get a road bike).

Seems to happen each year at this time, then eventually just say 'sod it' and get out on the bike. Worth taking a few layers and a rucksack (or whatever) to keep them in as I find I get too warm once I'm going.

Had some excellent winter rides last year, in the Peaks, the Yorkshire Dales and Wales.

Just do it. Seriously, I find if I don't use the bike for a few days, it becomes difficult to force myself to get out on it.

Whereas if I use the bike all the time, it becomes nearly impossible to not go out on it.

It just takes that first ride out, to get your legs addicted again.

Was out at 8am today and boy was it chilly. It was my hands that let me down (and feet) so I definitely need some winter gloves and over boots.

Other than that, it was lovely in the crisp sunshine.

Same here this morning too - overshoes and gloves straight on the Christmas list!

Dark evenings did it for me, I was doing 35 road miles twice a week in the evenings and then 15-20 miles off road on a Sunday morning - as soon as the evenings started to draw in the evening rides stopped :-(

Yep. Last month or so it's all but stopped. I suffered a chest infection and since then have been feeling like total crap (both in body and mind!) and haven't felt like touching the bike.

Not sure I will now till it warms up. Hateful weather.

Anyone found a decent supplier of thermal leggings to wear under bib cycling bottoms? I've been the mountain shops but all their long johns are a bit grey and loose fitting.

You might find that decent cycling trousers will work better, as they keep a layer of warm air trapped between your skin and the fabric.

Anyone got some recommendations for feet and hands? Tried the sealskinz and under gloves mentioned above, but didn't do owt for me, in fact worse than useless. The socks aren't too bad but still suffer over a 20 mile ride. Any offers?
Sorry for taking it off topic a bit.

How tight are your gloves? If they're too tight that can make them ineffective. I'm anticipating 16 miles in -10 on Tuesday AM and am confident in the Selaskinz and undergloves that i'll be using biggrin
