You can get these for motorbikes but they run off a connector to the battery on the bike. I'm guessing you could use the same for a flat bar bicycle if you were willing to carry a battery round on the pannier, back pack or water bottle holder but would be a bit of a bodge... why not just spend the money on some really good gloves. If not cycling then winter motorbike gloves would work as i doubt he'll be doing 70mph on the bike??

I'm not sure you'll be able to get heated grips, as they normally need a battery to run them - plus I imagine the front of your hands would still get warm.

You can, however, get heated gloves: http://www.heated-motorcycle-clothing.co.uk/

Unless he has a serious medical condition, good quality normal cycling gloves should keep his hands comfortable. My hands are cold almost all year round, but I have some Goretex/Gorewear winter gloves which work fantastically.

I'm betting his hands get cold because his core body temperature isn't high enough. More layers on the torso, more layers on the arms, and ski gloves - problem solved.

Nope, he has to wear gloves when he drives as his circulation is so bad

Not necessarily so at all. Those of us with Raynauds have constantly cold hands, irrespective of body temp. Good gloves are the only answer.

I don't know the name as I've had them some years, but they're similar to the Cross II. Mine have a velcro strap but the newer Gore Bike-Wear gloves seem to be elasticated instead. Excellent products. I wear mine for winter walking too.

What sort of bike? Could he fit bar muffs?

Probably can't do muffs then... Is this for the current weather and how cold does he go?

Good starting point?

ETA: 12V heated tape may also be an option.

What about those wee capsules with the widget inside when activated heat up. Perfect for inside gloves.

Are these any good? Like the idea, but would be interested in feedback from anyone who has used them.

I bought a pair of the AeroShields at the Cycle show in London and they have been great - they have a cheaper version now available on the website. The aeroshields are the biggest but offer most protection - a worthwhile investment if you want warm hands!
