Depends what you want them for.

If it is commuting, get gatorskins.

If you want them for training/racing, would look at a set of conti 4 seasons or Vittoria open Paves until the roads get a bit less coated with crap.

Gatorskins all day everyday.

I rode straight through the remains of a broken wine bottle on the kingsland road yesterday and thought my goose was cooked.

Not at all. The Gatorskins are top draw. I wouldn't use anything else now.

I've had these and Armadillos.

I find Armadillos are easier to get on and off the rim when swapping front to back. The only punctures I've had on either were when I rode over a massive expansion joint, which I won't be doing again...

I'm using Conti Gatorskins (700x23) on my winter training bike and I can't fault them.

Out of interest (so that we can avoid them!) what tyres are you running at the moment?

For the record, my bike is still on the Schwalbe Luganos it came with and they've stood up well to the rigours of a daily London commute. I've not had a puncture in over 1000 miles.

As many others have said, Gatorskins are brilliant. No punctures all through winter commuting and training. Really can't fault them, especially for the price.

I'd got for Armadillo's - I did LEJOG last year, had Gatorskins on my bike & still managed to get 3 punctures where as my mate had Armadillo's & didnt get any.

scratchchin Hmmmmm? I am thinking about switching my Gatorskins over from the 'old iron horse' to my new Merida. 2,500 miles on the Contis, all trouble free and they are good'n'grippy. Vittorio Rubinos that came fitted to the Merida have not, so far, inspired the same level of confidence, and are holding me back from committing fully to fast corners and descents, although if I could get a chance to ride it in the daylight on dry roads I might be able to compare new with old more objectively. wink

Well I've been out for a spin on my newly acquired Hardcase's tonight.

Seem ok,quite hard so ran them slightly lower pressure.

All I've got to do now is evolve some night vision eyes to spot all the potholes on dark country lanes!

I rode Rubino's before they were not to bad in the dry but in the wet you just couldn't trust them.
