Way of the Roses cycle route

Has anyone done this? (http://www.wayoftheroses.co.uk/ )

What kind of bike is suitable for this? It says the route is a mixture of tracks and quiet roads. I have mountain bike with pretty chunky tyres, so I'm thinking of fitting some with a lower profile/resistance but that still work off-road.

There was an article on it in Cycling Plus, October or November edition.
The guy did it on a steel touring bike.

I think it had just been officially opened, so that's maybe why nobody has done it yet.

It is on my 'maybe' list for when my Aussie cycling mate comes over for some touring UK style...summer 2012.

Looks like a good thing to do.

170 miles is a bit much for me in 1 day, I could probably knock it out in 2 days though. I think my old Dad would like to do it, and I would quite like to do it with him over 3 days...
