Hello all,
After my post about the e'tape I was wanting to do something noteworthy this year!
Me and my mate are thinking of doing the above? Its flatter than the tour route, obviously, but it is a lot further.
So any tips on best practice training wise for this?
More importantly, has anyone done it?

That will be a great day out.
I did a 330km ride last year, and am doing an SR series this year (a 200, 300, 400, 600). Didn't do any training other than ride a lot.
Assuming you already put in a decent number of miles, why not do some 200 and 300s over here before you go? That way, you'll know you can do the distance. This year, everyone is qualifying for PBP, so you will need to get your entries in early. Looking on the Audax Uk calendar, there are loads of 300 in April, so you should be fine.

Hi Okgo, I have done a lot of riding in Tuscany and it is fantastic and the locals love cyclists.
Dont underestimate the climbs because they can be very steep and in June the temperature could be in the high 20s, but give it a go because the scenery along the coast will be breathtaking!
The standard of cyclist in Italy is very high!
Good luck Robsti.

Yes, I am worried about the standard of cyclist.
Although the route of 180 miles has a 12 hour time limit, I think I shoudl be able to manage that.
I bet the scenery is fantastic!!
Unless you are quick, that doesn't leave much time for eating or mechanicals if you aren't riding in a group. I am not quick, but I did my 330km ride at a similar pace (finished in 14h52m inc stops) by spending >90km of it hanging on to the back of a pack of really fast lads. I had no mechanicals, but did have a long lunch. Not sure I'd want to do that sort of distance without some proper food in me at some point.Although the route of 180 miles has a 12 hour time limit, I think I shoudl be able to manage that.

Yes
Not necessarily but you really need to put some serious miles in between now and June and be comfortable doing 50 miles or more on an evening ride after work and upwards of 120 miles on a weekend ride or better still, back to back century rides over the same weekend. The Sunday ride will give you an idea of how you'll feel towards the end of Milan San Remo!
Don't get too hung up on the fact you need to ride 180 miles on a training ride as a test because on the day you'll be surrounded by other cyclists so will have plenty of others to ride behind to save some energy, there should be food & drink stations throughout the course to save you having to carry 180 miles worth of food & water and your adrenaline levels on the day because of it being a big event should carry you to the finish line long after your legs have given up!
Don't forget to let us all know how it went.

Right ok.
Well there's work to be done then. Clocks going back will be a big help, and the work ride can easily be extended with laps of Richmond park.
The hills in the course are not as extreme as the alps as I said, but I still think I'm going to do hill repeats on Box or Crocknorth, there's some very steep hills around that area, although they are not very long at all.

There is an old adage in cycling circles about there being "no substitute for miles". It is particularly apposite when considering continental sportives. You really need to be putting in 3 figure mileage rides every weekend with a good weekly mileage on top of that.
At 15+ stone you are going to suffer on the climbs, and suffer badly. You probably need to get rid of a minimum of 2 stone, and closer to 3 to enjoy it. Good luck.
