Islabike cnoc14 for Son just delivered - suprisingly heavy!
Discussion
You're probably right - guess I haven't picked up enough childrens bikes!
It was strange as I cycled home from work on my Airnimal Joey Sport, lifted that about a bit putting it in the garage, went indoors where the Islabike was waiting and having just lifted my adult sized bike, did the same with the Islabike and thought crikey this thing weighs a tonne!
Still, doesn't matter what I think, it's all down to my Son as he'll be riding it

Islabike cnoc14 arrived in the post today. It's a really lovely thing (think proper adult bike in miniature) but I'm amazed at how heavy it is given they are aluminium framed and marketed as being somewhat light weight.
Bit disapointed tbh
Think of it in % terms, it's at least 12% lighter than the next lightest 14" bike, the Ridgeback Mx14 at (8.4kgs) nearly everything else I saw in the market is 10kgs+ at least a whopping 25% heavier. The only other one that comes close is a specialized hotrock at 7.4kgs but it's a 12" pedal bike and too small for my boyBit disapointed tbh
Then if you factor in the child's weight say 4 year old average is about 16.5kgs keeping it under 50% of their body weight can only be a good thing.
Ok folks, I would like to retract my previous statement. We have just picked up a smaller 12" bike from halfords as the Islabike is a little bit too big for my Son. Now that I have something to compare it with, it's a lot lighter than the 12" bike which seems to weigh more than my mountain bike! putting the two side by side also highlights the quality of the Islabike (as it should costing over twice as much!)
