Ta Muchly.

I wonder if that jacket breathes but it's all handy, cheap, disposable gear at the very least.

I might be looking a gift horse in the mouth here, but does anyone know if aldi have one coming up? their website only shows deals up to the 17th at the moment.

The reason I ask is because in my experience of both of their products the lidl (cirvit) stuff is cheap and middle of the road quality, and the aldi (crane bike) stuff is cheap and really quite good quality.

My current cycling kit is a mix of both. The aldi 'bikemate' computer has been brilliant, commuting in all weathers, sat outside in minus temperatures at work and hasnt so much as needed the battery changing.

This.

Have checked out the Lidl stuff in the past and walked out empty handed.

The Aldi stuff OTOH is surprisingly good. My cycle computer is also still doing its stuff after 6 months - just as good for 3 quid as the 40 quid Cateye one on my other bike. Aldi SPD shoes - albeit a bit heavy - have stood up very well to 6 months daily commuting.

Picked up a set of the spd shoes, track pump and 2 of the hoists. Not bad for less than £30, shoes seem fine, if they last 6 months they'll be a bargain.

Picked up shorts, undies, shirts and the rain kit.

Verdict -
Best buy was the shirts. I don't really see the point of the full front zip on one of the styles, but nonetheless both are pretty nice and will make it into my regular training kit as well as cycling stuff - I find the addition of the taped areas and the zipped, unobstructive pockets makes them that much more practical.

Undies.. Don't know how to judge these as I've never used specific ones before - cycling shorts have always been sufficient padding alone. Maybe I'll discover a new world of comfort?

Shorts - straightforward and simple. Just another set to use when the other set gets minging

Rain jacket - nice. It'll have to wait for a proper rainy day to see an outing though. So far, the fit is good, adjustable cuffs, a light weight, peaked hood and a sensible collar to keep that hood in place means I think its pretty promising. It's also not fallen to the 'you can have it in any colour you want, as long as it's black' disease (see below)

Rain trousers - not convinced on these. I think they need a little more room around the quads and a little less room around the calves. We'll see. Also, my local only had these in black - Sure, reflective bits help, but really in conditions with reduced visibility, black does not help.

Track pump - didn't buy one of these today but I got one last time around - serving fine in an inoffensive fashion as you'd hope such a thing would do.

Sports Direct have decent KArrimore ones in at £12.

The Sports Direct Karrimor is a decent bit of Kit for the £ but definately does not breathe.

Worth trying to find one in a shop if you can as the sizes seem a bit random.

Stock tends to stay around for a few weeks but the popular items/sizes will be gone. I picked up a gilet from the Tottenham Hale branch yesterday - still plenty of tops, shorts, rain jackets there.

Tottenham hale will be the one I'm going to as it happens - can you remember if there were any of the shoes left?
