I am getting fed up of putting my bike in and out of the boot of my car as although it fits ok, it ends up with a certain amount of mud and dirt getting dragged in. So can any one recomend a good boot mounted bike rack, I've looked on-line at the Saris Solo but it seems to have mixed reviews, the carrier only needs to hold one bike.

So any recomendations or ones to avoid, the car in question is a PT Cruiser, tow bar fitment is out as thanks to me choosing something rare (/unpopular).

The Saris Bones is highly recommended apparently, if a little expensive.

I am in the market for a boot mounted rack also.......

There's quite a selection here http://www.roofrackshop.co.uk/Car-Products/Bike-Ra...

I have a Paddy Hopkirk rear rack that is now the best part of 15 years old and has served me well through that time, but I don't think they make then any more.

As mentioned the Saris Bones http://www.evanscycles.com/products/saris/bones-3-... is highly thought of if expensive. Look for the youtube video's of it, it looks very simple to use.

ETA: as your looking to carry just one bike the Saris Solo is very reasonable http://www.evanscycles.com/products/saris/bones-so...

Cheers was looking for the best inexpensive solution, I'd seen mixed reviews of the Saris Solo, currently the rack would be used for a 10mile or so journey up to the Chase and back, I don't have the spare cash to spend £100s especially as the bike will "fit" in the boot

Just take a couple of cheap old blankets, 1 to wrap the drive chain and wheels in and one to lay on the boot floor, that's what I do with the Golf when I go for rides after work.

I've got a Thule 9106 clip on high rack which is excellent, and although quite expensive new, I got mine on ebay for £50 so worth keeping an eye out.
