Afternoon all.

A friend is ordering a new full susser and its renewed my need want for new bike to replace suppliment my '05 Orange Crush.

The best bargain i have found so far is a 2010 specialized stumpjumper fsr elite at 1600 notes fromm 2100.

I am jealous and want something new and shiny...

So whats the best bargains you can find to tempt my card out of my wallet?

Try to keep it around 1500gbp and bouncy both ends.

The i-Drive looks lovely but i was never a fan of the suspension system - try before you buy!

If you're familiar with bikes then could I suggest the ebay? Lots of people offloading bikes before the summer ATM...Could get a nice Zesty or Meta for that sort of cash...

yeah but for the £500 quid off you can upgrade to a decent one, just hanging off for a decent deal on the 914 bought the 214 for winter and to see if i liked that style of bike and for the money it impressed, there is always some trade off on whatever bike you buy component wise!!

I like the GT Force but that Lappy is way under specc'd for that money. SLX on a £1700 bike??

A 2010 Boardman Pro FS can be had for just over a grand at the moment. SRAM X0 X9, Reba Race, Monarch 3.3 Ritchey WCS wheels and 12kg... If you can still find one. It's the fastest XC bike I have ever ridden.

SLX is perfectly normal on a quality £1700 bike. Boardman have cheap crappy rear shocks and frames to make up for the fact they have an XO rear mech.

Interesting. The Boardman came with the Monarch 3.3, which is quite a bit better than the Lappy's 3.1... which makes you wonder if anyone paid £1700 for this bike.

Crappy frame? In what way? It's one of the best finished, lightest ali frames out there. I have one and it has never ceased to soak up everything I have thrown at it. It climbs better than anything I have ridden. Considering the vast amount of these bikes sold and the lack of broken frame posts (unlike some other brands) it seems that they are more than up to the job.

Incidentally, my one came with a factory fitted Monarch 4.2 and there are several others who got the same.

I have never heard anyone criticise these bikes once they have ridden them. I have never met an LBS who didn't say the frame is rubbish. I guess the bike cost them a lot of sales so you would understand their desire to say anything to put the bike down, irrespective of how stupid and twisted it made them look... especially when offering you a £2000 SLX equipped bike.

Lord , I know what you mean when you need a bling purchase. I ended up getting my mtb and road bike for what I very nearly spent on a carbon Spesh Stumpy. I still don't know how I walked away from the one in Snow + Rock that day. It still calls out to me, but less so now.

So what if that Lapierre has got some SLX on it, I'd much rather have a better frame and lower spec groupset than the other way round. The next groupset up hardly feels any different in use. I've got old LX cranks on my Intense Tracer and a fairly low end groupset as I wanted to spend the money on wheels, brakes and forks, which actually make a marked difference to the ride.

The Boardman isn't that good a frame and the head angle is too steep for any more adventurous riding that the Lapierre excells at. People are just buying into the hype from What Mountain Bike and MBR if they honestly think Boardman bikes are that good.

What's wrong with the Boardman frame?

Why shouldn't anyone believe good reviews from MBR and what mountain bike?
