Bike manufacturers have only just started using Finite Analysis modelling.

If you said carbon bike manufacture was two years behind F1, I would agree.

I have heard it can be difficult to fit mudguards and panniers to $10,000 bike frames?

I was the only one on steel with mudguards*. Apparently I´d have fitted right in 10 years ago. That Stork did look awesome.

I´ve entered the 300 mentioned in that link, and have a place on a 600 in June. I´m expecting that as the distances get longer, there will me more people on old man bikes like mine, albeit people do 1400´s on carbon race bikes too.

  • edit - in that group at the front - there was plenty of skinny steel around elsewhere. However, at the sharp end carbon, ti and aluminium was the norm. Was the same on the other one I did - lots of carbon and hydroformed aluminium and no mudguards.
