Well I didn't die/fall off so all is well.

I just ended up running to the mounting point, stopped and then got on - no of this run and jump crap! It was quite disheartening though with all the great bikes whizzing past we most of the time. On one of the downhill parts I was peddling to get some speed whilst the person in front of me was having a drink and not pedalling, yet he still managed to keep ahead for the majority of the section.

Enjoyed the day despite being ill and injured and I would do one again.

So thanks for the advice, it was good.
