SWEEEEEET - it worked. Thanks for that - it might be pretty obvious but I hadn't thought of it.

Had to use a Strongbow can. No coke in the house but (for some reason) we had 4 cans of Strongbow. I'm now gagging my way through trying to drink it (it's a bit sickly).

biggrin

Awesome, another Skyway aficionado. I've got five of them at the moment. One Chrome and one white T/A plus three Streetbeats. The chrome one is made up using OS parts to look exactly like the bike I had at the age of 13.

Top stuff mate. love it. thumbup

There's a few in this thread here.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've got about ten OS BMXes all in all I think.

I'e got to say that I love Skyway bikes with a passion and I love the build you've done. I'll try to dig out the parts lists for the chrome T/A but I think that one has a Sugino chainring, Dia Compe 901s, Suntour headset and clamp and a few bits I can't remember off the top of my head without checking the garage.

I totally agree with you. there's something about the bikes that makes me grin from ear to ear. Recapturing my childhood I think. smile

Needs a frame pad to complete I reckon.

I'm leaving the brake adjusters as they came - they work so much better than the Weinmanns.

The Helix drop-out savers are good at their intended purpose but I could use some screw-adjustment for chain tensioning, so I may change them out.

Mars I've got a shim for an Elina UL seat mate. You're welcome to it if it'll help.

Very kind - thanks - but I've got it nice and tight now, thanks to the power of Strongbow (I didn't finish drinking it - how can anyone?). I spent a while cutting and fashioning one that goes around the inside of the seat tube, then wraps around through the slot, and then around the outside of the seat tube. The clamp had enough "extra" to really grab it this time.

Thanks though. beer

Took it for a little spin today - it's definitely better. I don't have anything like the balance I used to for wheelies but again, I'm still running with those crappy Skyway brake pads so my confidence isn't high. I will order some Odyssey clear ones this week - they look sticky enough.

Pics taken at different times and with different cameras but you should be able to see the difference between the chainwheel sizes.

It didn't work out. I'm not 13yo any more and I just can't get along with the bike, so it's up for sale. I'm prepared to split it it all up too. Some bits already gone.

I'm not sad about it because I'll just fund something else. Think I'm gonna build a single-speed hard-tail. Suggestions for suitable frames gratefully accepted.

Mars, pal of mine is possibly looking for a TA.

Please will you PM me pics and a price and I'll forward them straight on.

Edited to add: Sorry it didn't work out for you, it looks a great bike.

It *is* good. It's everything I thought it would be but the problem is *I'm* not the person I was the last time I rode one. I do love it but I've had to concede that I simply won't use it. It was fun to build and I'm lucky that I've been able to afford something like this but sitting low on a bike with my knees bent whilst pedalling isn't something I'm comfy with anymore. I need something that stretches my legs out a bit so I'll buy or build a hardtail. I've been toying with the idea of a single speed HT for a while which might be the sort of thing I could wheelie and play with... the sort of bike I hoped the Skyway would be. In fairness, the Skyway *is* that bike... for someone else.

I watched Timecop the other night, the last time I watched it was 1994 when it was awesome. Couldn't believe how st it was.

TL;DR childhood memories should be left as memories and not revisited

I have to say, I'm not surprised. I'm in good shape, and I'd rather ride 200km on my audax bike than do an hour on my BMX. They are utterly punishing to actually ride anywhere. I only ever use my WeThePeople is to mess about with on with my 5 year old. Even still, I feel pretty ragged after a session messing about on it (mostly from attempting to do 180deg bunnyhops to rollbacks - I'm so st now).

Depressing isn't it?

Sometimes I have those dreams where I am still coordinated and strong... not like "leap tall buildings" strong, but I have had the BMX dream twice now where I'm still able to bunnyhop over a 3ft rail, and could wheelie until I decided to stop.

To wake up after that and see who I've become is quite tough. smile

Dont do it fella, you will regret it FOREVER!!!

I'm pretty busy with my business but i make time a few early mornings a week to get out on my mongoose. I havn't been out for a while as i twisted my ankle at work. The first couple of outings back on it felt a little strange but you soon get used to it and build the muscles needed that you probably dont use as much riding boring grown up stuff.

Stick with it, if for no other reason than this being the worse time of year to sell thumbup

Had a meeting yesterday with a guy who happens to own a completely mint Redline 600a (never been ridden).

Small pictures attached. I'm looking to get some bigger pics. Will post them up if I can get some.
