Hi,

Like my bikes, but dont like spending much money. Already have a Board FS Team for the rough stuff, but am looking for an entry level Road bike (My first Road bike).

I have come across this, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-VIKING-TORINO-MENS-ROAD-...

Which i can get hold of for £250 Brand New (Dont start asking where, there is only 1 available).

Is it worth it (Not going to be commuting, or cycling 500miles a week, or shall i save more and get something more expensive. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

not really no. its not about how far or how fast you ride but enjoying it when you do go out. cheap bikes like this have poor components taht will fail or degrade quickly and you will lose heart quickly. if there is only 1 available, do you know its the right size?

i will get slated for saying this but the carrera range from halfords are way better than this for the money. if you can wait and save a bit more, the giant defy range is pretty good and starts around £500 and the specialized allez is pretty much default budget road bike in the UK.

have a look at the carrera tdf or the virtuouso. the spec may look the same but they are going to be better bikes.

thanks for the response, size etc is not a problem i can get which ever size i want.

I think the bike looks pretty good, however it needs to last.

I will have a look at the other suggestions.

As posted Its vital to get a frame size that fits if you are going to be really comfortable

, as an example I bought a second hand Graham Weiss from a chap at work who was 6' 0" the frame was 58cm , I am 5' 9" it was cheap at 150 quid. I had to get the seat down to the lowest position, it was ok for short rides , but on a 20 mile stretch I was getting lower back pain , the cassette was worn and would skip gears , etc. .

I upgraded to a new Colnago bought at Dauphines cycles ( boxhill surrey ) , they measured me up for the bike , that fits exactly to my size .......it was a size 50cm with sloping geometry .

looking at the frame it looks tiny , but its the correct size for me ,
I would advise to get measured for the right frame ,this way you have a starting point ,then the choice is yours ,

, normally some excellent deals on ebay but be aware ( there are a lot of foreign copies with questionable components ) or like used car deals a well maintained 3 year old racing bike from a reputable bike manufaturer like Trek , Cannondale ,Boardman , Bianchi will be a fraction of the cost of a new bike .

Always found doing a bit of research on cycle forums and paying a little more for good components always pays dividends in the long term
good luck

Having had a quick look have to agree that the Boardman bikes are exceptional value

Ive had a Virtuoso since 02. Its not too pretty, its heavy and very low spec but its still in one peice and still keeps going. I really want a new prettier, lighter higher specced bike but cant justify when there is nothing wrong with this one.

Oh yeah if there is only one left how can you get any size you require, custom built frame? wink

Let's not question how I can get the bike. I just can for that price and in any size they have available.

Thanks for the advice chaps, like I said I already have a boardman fs team so I'm a fan of their stuff and well wouldn't mind a parter for my other boardman sat in the garage.

I think I'll go to my local shop have a look see what size I want and the. Scour the web for a 2nd hand better bike.

Cheers

It's pretty much a Bicycle Shaped Object as mentioned in the thread the other day. I would advise looking at second hand or try to find a Giant Defy, Cannondale CAAD 8 Sora or a Specialized Allez cheap in the sales in the correct size.
