I've not used my road bike in nearly a year. So as encouragement to start using it again I bought this

Big box of High5 goodies inc bottle: £5. Stunning value from the Ride London show at Excel. Should have bought a couple if them.

A second Rubino Pro Tech: £18 from Decathlon. £3 cheaper than Wiggle!

I've been staring at the Rapha Pro Team Jacket at £110 for a while now and this popped itself into my basket. Mavic's Cyclone jacket reduced to £69 at CRC. Seems like quite a bargain.

I still can't get myself to spend that much on something I am essentially going to sweat in.

Oh for fk's sake. There I was, minding my own business, and you provide this piece of information.

I come from a ski-touring background where I really appreciate the value of having the right kit for the conditions. If I'm comfortable I'm more likely to get out and stay out in bad weather.

The Mavic jacket reviewed well for breathability, protection and fit and I think it'll make a big difference (to me, running hot and doing the riding that I do) compared to a less breathable, baggier jacket.

Technical cycling clothing is a fraction of the cost of ski-touring kit (which, admittedly, has to work over an even wider range of conditions) so maybe that affects my perception of value, but the cheaper stuff doesn't seem to do the job. Fine for commuting, I'm sure, but not up to the job if you're riding hard for a couple of hours.

Lights turned up yesterday.
Well bright! Think the house the other end of the garden wondered what was going on when I fired it up!
Will do a burn test on full and half power during the week to see how it lasts.

People who have never tried good kit will never appreciate it.

Well, during my week away I managed to damage my gear cables, dropper post cable, rear brake lever and hose...

So I've ordered... new xt brakes, goodridge hoses, a new deore lever to replace the damaged one, and new reverb to replace the ebay tmars gravity dropper clone.

I won't be able to ride for at least 6 weeks anyway till my arm heals!

I am very lucky to be in a situation where I have a lot of good kit (mainly Castelli) and have not had to buy it. I just can't get myself to spend on it. I understand how much better is it, and the benefits of it.

Troy Lee A1 Helmet.

Was £140, reduced to £55.

Wasn't really in the market for a new helmet, but after looking at how cool this TLD one was, I decided my boggo white Spesh lid was a bit crappy! :P
