Plane X are a British organisation, but like lots of bike manufacturers the frames are made in the far east, but the finished bikes are assembled here. However, the N2A was designed by a well known Italian bike designer.

To be honest, £2k is a lot for a N2A even if its running 11sp Ultegra. In the current market, the frame is quite heavy compared to the competition. I personally think the RT-57 is better value for money. I'm guessing you have noticed that there are next to no reviews on the net for the N2A as a complete bike. The only stuff you will find are ancient Planet X press releases and a few bits on weight weenies and forums. I get the impression that if the N2 went up to bikes of a similar value in a group test in a mag, it might loose.

I am building my new bike round the N2A frame because I all ready have all the bits, so buying a complete bike was always going to be a waste. Also the N2A frame is an amazing looking thing. I personally wouldn't spend £2k on the N2A, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Bikes are personal things, so if you like it, then wait and just keep chasing them.

I've done half a dozen sportives over the last few years and if I overtake someone, I always look at their bike and in three years, I have only ever seen one N2A and thats kinda cool smile

Edit: My frame has just turned up. Nice looking thing, but the 'chip on the headtube' isn't a chip, its a crack and they have sent the frame with out the seat post. In short I'm pissed off. I asked before I hit buy it now if it was complete and they said yes. I probably wouldn't have bothered if it didn't have a seat post. I am on the verge of sending everything back and buying a 2014 Cannondale.

I now have to suffer the painful Planet X customer service all over again...

Shogun001. You are buying new, so apart from lead time, your bike should be fine. My CX was spot on when it arrived and I use it nearly every day and so far it hasn't skipped a beat in 1600 miles and that is since March of this year.

Thanks bakerstreet for taking the time to make such a detailed and comprehensive reply.

I've phoned them up today and currently my bike isn't in the build queue so no set date for delivery. They're waiting on some Ultegra chainsets which should have been delivered on the 3rd.

I think I will continue with the purchase however the wait is frustrating as I hate waiting for things I've paid for.

I'm not sure if the Giepemme carbon wheels will be any good for the price as I can't seem to find any reviews for those either. I guess I'll find out sooner or possibly later!

2 grand is an awful lot of money for a Planet X irresepctive of how they dress it up.

My first Planet X pro carbon arrived with a cracked top tube, terrible packaging. Replacement took 1 week but I drove 1.5 hours to swap the bike over in their show room. Customer service was shocking, shame because I'd be tempted with an n2a frame to swap stuff to next year but not sure I fancy the agro again

To go with the son's first road bike I hit up Planetx for bits they'd find hard to get wrong, some bibs and the autumn 2 bundle (overshoes, merino arms, skull cap which I am stealing... & some great autumn/early winter glove/mitts, they lack a bit on the palm padding front but the design is excellent, a tuck away 'lobster mitt' which goes over 3 fingers for an extra layer with grippers on thumb and forefinger for gear shifting. £40 well spent.

Gone full road this weekend biggrin

Went for a shakedown ride last night and had my first clipped in fall!! Only real damage was pride and a scuffed pedal.

Popped into Halfords earlier for a new water bottle and also walked out with a new workstand - at £40, it was rude not to! biggrin

Any recommendations for a bike tool kit please?

The Halfords bike hut one is £40 at present. I feel a better alternative is probably out there?

I've got a 15% off your order this weekend code for PBK if it's any use to anyone. I'll not use it.

Planet X are selling Tektro cable disc brakes for a tenner an end. Not the best out there, but you can't grumble at that. Just bought 2. They even come with the Post to IS adaptors....stupid bargain!

DHB Roubaix Windslam jersey and Aero shorts arrived from Wiggle on Saturday. Wore them for a spin on Sunday - jersey's a bit warm for the current conditions but very impressed.

After buying and refunding a bike rack that just didn't fit, Thule 591 and Aero bars going on my car today. Should be just the job for a couple of trips we have planned. smile

It changed again over the last week or so to be £13.50, still a good price.

Picked one up as I always need something to carry files and books.

Another beautiful morning. Weather lovely, just on the crisp side of cool. Traffic horrific, nearly left-hooked by a Golf on the school run (put your phone down, Timmy and Emily don't want me coming through the window), and thoroughly dropped up the col de Clapton by a woman on a lovely old steel bike.

I've got a new plan: when people deliberately drive along in the gutter trying to stop cyclists passing (where there is a marked lane), I'm going to start opening their rear passenger door as I pass. Should be amusing.
