I have found that despite wearing overboots my feet are still getting cold, I think the issue is teh cold air coming through the sole of the shoe. Winter boots seem to be the order of the day.
Are you using road shoes? If yes, then tape up the vent holes. Its a bit cheaper than winter boots I actually keep mine taped up all year. Never had issues with feet getting too warm. This is England after all!!Also, I rate socks as a much better way to keep you feet warm. The Wolly Bully socks are excellent. Before I bought those, I used to use sports socks with hiking socks and carrier bags to keep the water out. Took a long time to get ready though
Bought a few bits recently.
Proper knobbly Continental Cyclocross tyres
Titanium disc bolts from china for the CX bike
Topeak compact pump *My old one was quite big to put in my back pocket
Got some money for my birthday, so I shall treat myself to a set of carbon bottle cages from china and maybe some Hylix Carbon bars from China too

Fitted last night (using the supplied silicon case and zip ties). Used it for a turbo session and worked flawlessly. Took 2 minutes to attach and connect to my iphone. First time I've measured cadence and was interested to find my natural cadence during intervals is 100rpm. Did a bit at 90rpm which felt a bit strange but no harder (heart rate dropped 5bpm and legs felt they were taking more of the brunt).JEA1K said:
I've resorted to too pairs of socks and two sets over overshoes when its almost freezing and below! Waterproof Endura pair over shoes then a pair of Mavic Thermo plus on top of those. Was -4 when I set out yesterday and feet stayed warm all day.
I've got some Mavic Arctic winter boots - too cheap to say no to on ebay. They are nowhere near as good as the Specialized defrosters or Northwave winter jobbies, but they really are a huge improvement over normal shoes in the winter.
The biggest difference is the sealed sole - instead of vented. I've had cold feet even with overshoes on with vented shoes, now overshoes are only needed if its raining (the top of the shoes lets water in through the openings for the Velcro straps) and my feet are toasty - or at worst OK.

Thanks for that, sounds like the way to go. I'm not sure how I'll explain a 3rd pair of shoes to the Mrs but where there's a will. They are nowhere near as good as the Specialized defrosters or Northwave winter jobbies, but they really are a huge improvement over normal shoes in the winter.

They are good - awesome, but flawed and could have been perfect were it not for the very porous upper. A fold-over flap like the defrosters is all they needed to be 100%.
Since I solved my cold feet problem I seem to be wearing less as well, where I'd previously be wearing a jacket I'm in Gilet and jersey instead.
Those rank alongside deep section lightweight wheels for my summer bike and my garmin as "best cycling buys"

I would be very careful about having an exposed phone on your bike. I got a waterproof case (the Topeak one) and mount for mine. There'll always be a puddle somewhere!
It comes with a splash proof cover The product is Quadlock very well made and well worth a look but not cheap!
