That reminds me I must print the return label off and return mine to Wiggle - the zip failed the second time I used them....

Instead of a planned ride today, A trip to the LBS...

1 x Axle for the rear wheel. QR type, complete with the new cone nuts that were what I really needed. @ £7.99
16 x Ball bearings (1 packet) to replace the cruddy brown misshapen ones that came out of the cups. @ £2.49
2 x Pulley/jockey wheels to replace the "Piranha's Teeth" pair I removed. @£3.99
1 x Traditional puncture repair kit. Running short of Park instant patches, but LBS sells 'Skabs' - which I don't like. @ £3.29

...and spent the morning mending punctures (two in one tube - thorns to blame), and trying to bring some life back to the rear wheel hub.

The bearing cups are jiffed, though (ridden too long with the grease washed out because I'm lazy), so how long the new bearings will last is a bit of a guess. £17.76 spent, most of it on bits you never see.

A pair of these after Yellowjack mentioned that a local shop was doing them at 50% off.
I've been using the MTB version for ages and they've been great so hopefully the road shoes are as good.

Let's just say that this year I shall mostly be wearing Vulpine. On and off the bike. biggrin

Sample sale : well worth investigation first thing tomorrow if you're in the London area.

Wellington Trek in Sunningdale.

They've got 50% off all stock shoes and they have Northwave and Bontrager.

small question. Would wheels like this arrive pre-assembled or would you have to do it yourself?

Those will arrive assembled. I bought a set two years ago. Make sure you find the spacers for the rear cassette. I didnt any in the box so I think I threw them away.

Its a good wheelset for the price. I do however find there's a fair bit of flex on the front wheel when cornering hard.

that flex concerns me! Especially as I'm a little over 90kg. Having said that.. I'm still on the same wheels that came with my bike. Completely slick with very little sideways grip, so I don't lean over much on bends.

At that weight you'd be better off with a greater number of spokes.

Quick question, when putting new pedals on a mtb should I grease the threads a little before tightening them on?

Don't have anything around the house at the moment. I took one pedal off and inspected it and there is a decent bit of grease on there from the previous owners pedals. Would that do?

well now I feel like I'm back to square one. I can either buy a pair of the Shimano wheels. OR, replace my broken rear wheel with one that's exactly the same as the broken one.. from decathalon.

Only it's currently out of stock in london!

See what they have in Evans or Cycle Surgery or whatever local independents you've got nearby.

You should be able to get a reasonably sturdy and priced rear wheel for £50 or less and they'll probably swap your cassette onto it (or tell you your old one is scrap and sell you a new one).

FWIW I've done a couple of thousand miles on some R500s and weigh over 110 kilos. They weren't as sturdy as I'd hoped with my fat arse on them but apart from the odd spoke needing re-tightening after the occasional big knock they never actually broke - unlike the 32 spoke CX wheels I have now that have popped a spoke on average every 400 miles, hopefully a badly built wheel rather than me needing to go on a drastic diet, anyway - the R500/501s are a pretty good basic wheel.

How about these?

I'm 92kg and have these wheels... Stood up to me sideways hoping up/over things. They're cheap enough to replace so I'm happy to abuse them.
