The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread

J&L Light weight alloy seat post clamp. Bought from a Taiwan Ebay seller. Bought things from them before and I was surprised by how quickly stuff arrived
Also just bought some new swisstop pads for the road bike. I want to get it fully serviced, so I can actually use the thing. Its been gathering dust for a while.

Not strictly for the bike, but just booked a week long holiday between these two centres;

At fecking last you pontificating short-arse! Did you go for small or medium in the end? I was tempted too, but managed to resist in the end.
Small: I found the sizing guide and picked about with the calculator. Worked out that I was at the very upper end of small and the very lower end of medium, which would've been too long without a silly short stem (with knock-on effects upon weight distribution, handling etc, etc).ambuletz said:
These finally arrived for me. Shimano r501's.
Now I need to think on whether or not I should buy myself the casette removal tool like this.

Halfords charge £10 to swap them around. Which I am not keen on doing. I can either...
Buy the tool (which means I'd have it for life)
OR
I can go round a friends house to borrow theirs (other side of london however).
I would get it sooner if I buy it. But will have to wait until the weekend if I borrow a friends!
I got the exact same wheels a couple months back. Same dilemma as you. I bought the Park tool (and a Park chain whip) 40NM BTW for the locking ring, so don't swing on it.Now I need to think on whether or not I should buy myself the casette removal tool like this.

....Today I managed to neatly do a superb stumble along with a near fall in my shed which ended in the dimense of a pair of faithful riding glasses which I considered a faithful friend!!......pissed of so much any thought of a ride dismissed as angry totally pissed-off mood overwhelmed me!I have just ordered the these, as anything more expensive is wasted as sunglasses ALWAYS end up in a painful death in my world!!
These look a good buy at that price ....thanks for posting BCM.

You can buy whip, lock ring and spanner for less than £15 on eBay as a set. You don't need anything as flash as Park for this job. Certainly buy the tools, you'll get lots of use from themThis lot make half decent stuff - http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=...
Then all you need is an adjustable spanner. Job done

I just bought some new wheels
I got 400 yards into my commute this morning (one small blessing) when I heard the "ping, clatter clatter clatter" of a broken spoke.
On closer inspection, the rim was cracked as well. I could've paid the LBS to build up a replacement rim, but I'm not sure I'd have too much confidence in them, so instead I'll see if I can get anything for the hubs on Ebay, and have just ordered a pair of Kinesis Crosslight CX Disc V3s from Fatbirds for £270.
I really could've done without having to shell out the cash on these at the moment, but it seems that suitable wheelsets for disc equipped CX bikes are few and far between, and mostly far more costly.

Cant go wrong with those. I've still not been able to find anything better for similar money.I got 400 yards into my commute this morning (one small blessing) when I heard the "ping, clatter clatter clatter" of a broken spoke.

I've abused the hell out of mine in the last 14 months, singletrack, racing, road, a couple of big crashes.
Had one trued after a 25mph road crash and needed a replacement nipple after an offroad century really more suitable for MTBs.

Thanks! At least I now feel vindicated in my choice, if not happy about having to buy them in the first place! I've abused the hell out of mine in the last 14 months, singletrack, racing, road, a couple of big crashes.

ETA - And I just got an email to say that my Fatbirds standard 2-3 day delivery will actually turn up tomorrow, so at least I'll be able to cycle in on Thursday and save £11.60!

SLX 1x10 running gear + hope t-rex.
What kind of cost for the conversion? Just pricing options up myself. Race face Narrow wide crank set (includes the BB) runs at about £120 from my LBS, plus 10 speed cassette, deore mech, slx shifter, cables and chain they are quoting about £200 all in.Some friends are advising 1x11 however!
