The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread
Discussion
It had to be spent so no point delaying further....
- RoRo and new chain for the MTB as the Crossmark is worn out and everyone keeps telling me how much more grip 'everything' else has. To be fair with the Crossmark on the front it was a liability in the wet, swapping the rear will obviously turn me into Nino Shurter
- Orange gear cables for the TT bike to fit the new R2C shifters and Zipp Ski poles
- Some connex links
- Hope jockey wheels as the std SRAM X0 ones are utter garbage and now look like throwing stars anyway. They seize every ride due to the seals being a poor design. Same price as Hope anyway so nothing ventured.

Ordered one of these to replace the Promax Render R on the front of my Whyte:
I probably should do the rear as well even if it's just for OCDs sake but I'm more interested to see how much better they are than a standard mechanical caliper.
I was looking at these last night, would be interested to hear how you find them.I probably should do the rear as well even if it's just for OCDs sake but I'm more interested to see how much better they are than a standard mechanical caliper.
I've been waiting for a lifetime but finally getting to post a rubbish pic of my new bike bits! 'YAY' Just got to wait until next weekend to fit them all now...

.Fulcrum Racing 5's with Conti GP4000SIIs
.105 5800 Gear set running 50/34 and 12-25(I'm short, fat and weak still!) I wasn't fussed about the brakes, I'm quite happy with the cantilevers I have.
.105 5800 pedals and first cleated shoes
.Seat post and bar tape
.Plus a few tools for fitting etc
All in the name of marginal gains, justified with man-maths
I have to say Evans Cycles were outstanding! (and very patient with me!) I was tied to Evans with vouchers but they price matched most of the gear set and save me about £85 over their online prices! It took about 50 minutes over the phone but the guy was very understanding and very helpful bless him!

Got a new job in town, so this meant new car and more importantly a new bike. I don't want to use the tube for the last part of my journey, so I've bought the below to cycle to the station in the morning, fold up bike for the main line journey and then use it to to cycle from Euston to Bank. Its a Tern Link D8 with grip shifters.
I don't know how well this is going to work, so I haven't spent a lot on a folder. However, I did my research and these appear to b good value. Mine has had a new frame fitted as part of the factory recall, so looks brand new, apart from the consumables. This bike also came with a lock, bag, receipts, inner tubes, multi tools, saddle bag and a few other bits.
I took it to the station yesterday and its heavy compared to my CX and road bikes. Also very twitchy thanks to the 20in wheels. However, everything seems to work ok and its pretty comfortable.
Things to do:
Remove the rack. I won't use it, also it will save some weight.
Buy a carbon seat post (bling and some weight saving)
Replace the brake blocks
Maybe fit some marathon tyres for ultimate reliability
I would have liked a Brompton, but they are very expensive and I don't know how this job is going to go and for the price, I can sell it again for what I paid for it I spoke to a few people who owned Terns on the train and they seemed to really like them. The bike should pay for its self after three months of use everyday
I bought it from Gumtree. I've never been a a fan of Gumtree, but I was fed up of looking on Ebay and the ones on Gumtree were much cheaper than Ebay.

Don't blame you, just reading about your efforts in the racing section of last weeks CW!! Well done
Meh second place is first loser The week before was ok though.
Annoyingly the version of the frame I have didn't come with a seatpost, finding matching ref and black everything will prove pricey
As per my other Ebay thread, picked this up on the weekend (excuse the disgusting garden)
I fancied another Wilier, as I already have one and really like it but couldn't justify the costs of a new one, saw this and snapped it up for £600 . Shame it has a 105 compact chainset, as I wanted a Campag double, but otherwise I like it. Went out on a quick ride yesterday and it was all good bar an annoying creak!
Does anyone know if you can fit a 53/39 chain rings to a FSA Gossamer Compact chainset? I'm guessing you cant , but thought I would check.
